I think most people racing lipo will agree there is a slight loss in speed running lipo compared to ni-mh, but what you loose in straight line speed you gain in handling on the infield.

Hello
i`m new on here and have just started racing 12th after a few years out
at the minute i`m running a L4 and have a Nosram Matrix evolution spec racing speedo with a Nosram 10.5t pure evolution motor and running Ni-mh cells.
But i`m looking at upgrading the car and looking to go lipo.
Does anyone know if i will see a decrease in performance in speed with this speedo/motor setup if i switch from NI-MH to lipos
Thanks Gary

Hi
so the only way would be to run a lower turn motor to overcome the loss in power from running lipos.
most of the drivers at the club i race at use the Ezrun motor/speedo setups and have found that a 12t Ezrun motor on NI-MH works fine but they had to drop down to a 9t Ezrun to get a similar performance when running lipo.
Just wondered if i would see the same sort of results running the nosram setup and would i have to go two say a 9.5t or lower to get similar results
Thanks Gary
Your speedo combo is fine - I would stick with it if I was you....
Running Lipo in your L4 will be more difficult - not impossible, just more difficult due to the T-bar....you will have to stick it down one side and ballance the chassis with the electronics down the other....
Keep the Nosram stuff - give it 48mm/rev and drive it like you stole it! With Lipo go to 55mm/rev.....
Enjoy
Cheers guys for the info its all new to me this brush-less and lipo stuff lol i`m from the old skool days of brushed and nicads/ni-mh
As for the car i was looking at changing it not sure what to go for at the moment been looking at either a
CRC carpet knife gen xl
or
Associated R5.1
Lots seem to run the carpet knife at the club but quite like the look of the new R5.1
is any better than the other or are they both good.
Next is the lipos looking between the
Nosram 5400 x-tream race 50c packs
or
SMC 5300 50c packs
but again all is new and not sure which is best to buy
Thanks Gary
Saddle pack lipos are available, Wim has got some in stock. You can stay with a T piece car if you want to.
Hope you don't mind the thread pinch, but hope this adds more info...
What speedo settings should we start with for the above setup?
Do the settings change nimh to lipo?
Thanks
Hi Gary, its paul from the car club, If i was you mate i would stay with what you have cause your car seams to be going ok, wait for a bargain, if you must change cars......see you sunday, Paul ...
