What difference does the pully coming off the spur gear make. I know there is either the 17 tooth or a 20 tooth advailable but am un sure what the differnce would make?

17t pulley gives more acceleration as the internal ratio is higher than the 20t pulley.

Think of the 17t as an 'indoors' pulley and the 20t as an 'outdoors' one.

Theres a few people that say that the 17t pulley isnt as efficiant as the 20t but i seem to find that the 17t pulley is fine.. SInce i changed to the 17t pulley i have been able to get am extra lap in on other in A.

That might just be due to my driving picking up again... Experiment :)
