I am running stock stuff. 83 tooth spur and 25 or 27 tooth pinion. I just built a mission and the stock gearing was 24 pinion and 83 spur. With the same motor, his was so much faster it looked unreal. Is there something wrong with my car? I have taken off the belt pulley to free up the belt. I have ball diff's in the rear too. Gear up front for now, still debating on one way or ball's up front. Anyways, what can I do to make my gearing more like his?

The internal ratio for the two cars are different. The 04 internal is 2.133 so with 83/25 gearing the overall ratio is 7.08. However the mission internal (assuming a 17t layshaft pully) is 1.81 so his gearing with 83/24 is 6.25. You can see that he will be quicker due to the ratio.

To the same ratio you could change to .4 module gearing and run 120/41 which would give you 6.24.

You do need to make sure that the car is 'free' though, that with the motor pinion removed the drivetrain rotates free. A ball dif in the from would also help, as it allows you to adjust the slip which can help to eliminate wheelspin. I have a front one-way but do not use it very often, only at large flowing tracks.

Hope this helps

Cheers Dave

It is funny that you said a 120 tooth spur. I have the 40 and 41 tooth pinions on the way. Looks like I am buying that 120. Thanks dave.
