i have a fairly old BRM 27t hand wound motor for my 1/12th corally. i have a few questions about it....

1. what advance should i be running (in general) ?
2. what brushes / springs ?
3. gearing suggestions for a small track (ashby indoors if anyone is familiar with it) - i am running 3300 batteries

question 1 is because i stripped the motor down a while ago and never noted the factory settings !!

thanks

Why not give Glyn a call, he will be able to give you the low down on running and keeping the motor on song.

Are you racing or planning to race it just at your local club?? as those type of motor are no longer allowed for the stock class at the nationals, they must come from the homologation list which you can find on the brca website.

gary,

i will call glyn (unless he answers here first). i understand ashby are running a 1/12th series this winter using these motors so that probably explains that.

looking at the 1/12th brca rules it says that only 'standard' motors are allowed in the stock class. this, according to the rules as i see them, only allows un-openable motors to be used - am i right ? - it seems rather strange if so.

quote from the BRCA website (2003 rules) :-

2.1 Motors allowed: Any motor conforming to
the current Electric Board standard class.
Additionally any 27 turn, single wound armature
with a maximum wire diameter of 0.75mm may
be run in a modified can until the end of the
2002/03 season.

The rule for the nationals is that if you run 6 cell, you must use a stock motor that is approved on the Electric board list. (see BRCA site)
These are the motors that everbody uses in their tourers for stock class - 27t fixed 24 degree timing with bushes (but the motors can be taken apart for maintanace purposes).
The comment about 'spec armature' with a 27t in a modified can was the old 'standard' motor rules and they ceased to be legal at the end of last season.
