This maybe should of gone in the cells section but what the hey. My plan is this...I recently bought 2x 3300 stick packs. Is it possible to have them broken down and rebuilt as 4 cell packs for 1-12 racing. Does it hurt them doing this?

Cheers in advance.

Hi

Nope, just make sure you don't trash the cell's heat shrink and use a really good soldering iron, you want one that melts the solder instantly.
You may find that a stick pack has cells that are tagged together these can just be pulled off and then just use cell bars to join them into pairs

Hi

All my 4-cell packs for my 1/12 started off life as 6-cell packs in my touring car. Whenever I buy new cells, I always buy 2 packs for the tourer and break up 2 packs for the 1/12.

I think the 1/12 is kinder on cells, so having the absolute best is not so vital. I always charge and discharge each cell individually before I put them into packs so they are kind of re-matched. I have had about 10-12 months of racing on each "second hand" pack this way.

James.

Thats what I do. I bought 2 sets of orion matched gp3300's, and broke them down into three 4-cell packs. I don't find it affects the cells, as all three of my packs are about equal. (ie I don't have one slow one)

When disassembling stick packs remove the heatshrink, then pull the tags connecting them off, the chances are some small bit of sharp metal will be left on the ends of the cells. remove this using a dremel with a sanding piece on the end, i guess sandpaper may work, but will take longer. This will also leave a slightly rough texture on the ends of the cells, meaning the solder will take better to the cells aswell. remove these bits of metal is important as it gives you a far flatter surface to solder the new battery bars to.

Why not just buy the 4 cell packs that Corally sell?
