View Full Version : Alloy Steering Parts Question

I am running my RCLab 7even 6.0 Pro II built as per the kit instructions and I have a question about using the upgrade alloy parts up front.

I have the stock kit steering knuckles (labelled 1.5 degrees and L & R handed) and the stock C-hubs (labelled 7 degrees also L & R handed) in my car right now and this set-up is dialed for my club's stock sedan class with Sorex 24R rubber tires on a carpet track.

I would like to use the alloy 5 degree front C-hubs in combination with the alloy steering knuckles. My question concerns the steering knuckles as they also serve as the rear hub carriers. Does the 2 degree designation on these only apply when these parts are used as rear carriers?

yes steve, you will get 2 degrees rear toe in when you used those 2 degrees hubs (steering knuckles ) in the rear, at the front they wont apply. The degrees marked on hubs all designates the amount of rear toe in you get when the hubs are used at the rear only (you can get 1, 1.5 and 2 degrees).

Also, I'm sure Mike will correct this if I am wrong, the L and R makrings on the hubs is irrelevent when used at front but when used at rear they have to be positioned as marked, otherwise you will have a funky handling car!

The ones on the C hub (caster blocks) is amount of caster (3, 5 or 7) you get from each block. Note that the 7.6 has built in 2 degrees kick-up so this will add to the total caster you have. For example when using 5 decrees caster block you will get 7 (2+5) degrees caster overall, these are L/R orientated too (else funky car rule applies too!)

Remo - thanks for the prompt reply. Your reply is just as I had hoped.

I removed the 7 degree plastic c-hubs in favour of the 5 degree alloy ones so that should make for slightly quicker turning response. I've also installed the alloy 2 degree carriers as steering blocks but that won't affect anything as they have the same geometry as the plastic 1.5 degree versions when used as steering blocks.

I'll try this combo next club race and see how that goes. I placed 2nd in my club's stock sedan A-main event last Saturday and I just need to catch the top dog with his Yokomo SD.
