this question relates to those drivers from the early days of mod motors.

in the "old days" we used to use all sort of concoctions to clean comms. Nylon brush between races, copper polish on a bit of leather with the comm spinning in a drill (ore-Dremel), hell I even used wet & dry!

Com sticks with stock, always after EVERY run, then a flush through with motor cleaner, never ever wore a com out when racing. The magnets would go soft before the comm got anywhere near looking like it was worn out....

I used to use a bit of Brasso on a cotton bud, scares me now to think what it would be like without lathe's. :D

so we darw a conclusion of any diy or house hold cleaner products for cleaning the com, nice one guys,so at the mo i am using a very old skimmer, infact it's a grinder ,you put your com in the holder and attach an over large pinion on the end which in turn a belt goes from the pinion to the 540 motor the holder is on a slide left to right and the other end of the armature sits into a bearing holder ,then the turn of a small wheel will move the armature ,back and forth to a grinding wheel with very fine emery cloth on it,it takes quite a while to re-grind the com but it does not do a bad job, could this be one of the first motor lathe's ???
