Am having trouble adjusting to my B4 with regards to gearing as its different from my old B3....
Can anyone give me some pointers regarding the gearing I should be using seeing as probably most of you were at Bury last weekend therefore should have a good idea!!! :p
I currently run:
Reedy KR 11 Double (Quad Mag)
BRM 12 double
Orion Core 12 double
I am interested in your opinions and what you have run but also why you think that particular gearing is ideal.... :D
DISCUSS!!!

Scott.

hi in my b4 i run 81/20 with either a peak vantage 10x1 or a kr 12x2.
the top boys seem to run 81/22 but i like the motor to rev out so the front of the car lifts less under power.

Cheers mate.
Am running 81/23 and the car absoultely flies at the moment - tried a 19 / 20 and it felt somewhat gutless..... must be the Reedy KR's...

Blimey thats some gearing on your BRM Millzy!!! - Time to get a 26, 27 and 28 pinion then!!!
Seems as though my gearing for my KR is spot on then really 22/ 23...
I assume I should be gearing my 12 doubles at around 24 / 25 with a 81 spur ???
When you say gear down I assume you mean reduce the pinion size / spur size ?

No you want 22 on you r normal 12.
ansd26 -28on your brm.
yea gearing down is going lower or the pinion

If 22 on my normal 12 double then how comes you gear your KR so high in comparison?
I thought the KR's liked to be gear low so they can rev?

22 is low for the pt, it like to be geard down to rev.
and after ready ing what you said about your 12, i think its a bit to hight, 23 will be ok, but try it on 22.
the 10s are geard one high but its how they work for me.

The KR likes to rev too so from your PT (has quad magnets like KR) I should gear it at 21 / 22 max... its on 23 at moment  - it is a 11 TURN motor remember..... not a 10 like yours.
I will gear my Orion 12 doubles at 81 / 22 then.....
26 - 28 for the BRM's :D
I'm going to need to write all this down :p
That all sound ok to you Geezer?

I'm currently running my Peak V2 12x2 at 23/81 with 18 degrees of timing, indoors it seems to like about 20-21/81.
I always ran my KR 12x2 20/81 no matter what, seemed to work everywhere

Thought Id join in,
I run
Hara V2 12 x 1 on 81/23 indoor
Hara V2 12 x 2 on 81/22 indoor
Revolution V2 12 x 3 on 81/20 indoor
Big comm motor: Ti Worlds, Kr have more torque for off roading
Small comm motors: Pt, Ti have more RPM typically for on road

I tried 19/81 with my brushless ss5800 this week at Stotfold and it seemed to work quite well. at 22 the wheelspin was difficult.
tried 18 and that worked quite well may try 20 again though
the different punch of my batts make a lot of differenceas well and of course the changeable grip.
cheers

I've just fitted the Nosram brushless system (3 star motor) 81 spur with a 21t pinion and had a 5min test run. The speedo was red hot so do you think i should try a 18 or 19? Would that give me more acceleration or a higher top speed? I can't get my head around these gear ratio's

Hi Samson,
I run the Nosram 4 star system, with the Matrix Evo speed control which seems to run nice and cool- however I have cut cooling slots in the body shell to allow clean air to reduce the temp. Also I have fitted a "Much More Racing 25mm Fan" which again significantly dropped the temp. I find that it runs well with an 84 spur and a 18 tooth pinion indoors, and with the same spur for outdoors coupled with a 19-20 tooth pinion.
I ran at the Batley regional last week and it was nice and cool, and that was with all of the cooling holes in my shell covered with tape as it was raining - however the fan was still active.
I do recommend putting a fan in your chassis with some cooling slots on the shell as it does make a huge difference!

you cant really compare brushless to brushed tho.
B3 internal ratio: 2.4
B4 internal ratio: 2.6
you need a tooth bigger pinion on your B4 than you would have on your B3, i think
