Back again and its question time ;D

- Having problems mounting my diamond bit .... it came with the lathe but the carbide bit was already mounted.... I have put the diamond bit in the same way the carbide tip was and the diamond tip seems to foul the V block on the left .... how do I adjust the lathe to increase the height of the tip?

- Am also finding it difficult not to cut too much off the comm - does anyone know what the marking on the wheel represent on the lathe?

Other than that I seem to be doing ok *:)

Scott

If its anything like the hudy one, you should have some shims to slip under the tool to bring the tip of the cutter up to the centre line of the comm.

Use a black marker pen to cover the the comm, and carefully advance the tool to the comm till it just cuts a ring out of the marker pen. Then traverse the tool to make the first cut.

Move the tool back to the beginning, and if needs be, advance it the tiniest amount and make another cut. Keep doing this till the comm is good. Its all about being gentle.

yeh just take the tinyest cuts you can. i dont even advance it 1 notch on my lrp lathe between skims. you only have to just touch the wheel and it cuts the tinyest amount out of the comm.

Unfortunately I dont have any shims to stick under the cutting tool.... I guess I could use anything though?

Am using the black marker pen trick and works well *:) - cheers!

Feeler blades cut with a pair of strong scissors into strips make for very effective shims.

even thin stips of lexan will be good enough for shimming up the cutting tip, thats if you haven't already sorted the problem
