Now, I am either looking at the pics wrong, but aren't those cars running positive camber instead of negative camber??

Doughty
11-09-2003, 12:48 PM
I am certain its a diff bodyshell

camber, not sure, could just be the camera lens distorting things a little.

interesting thing for me is that he seems to have lowered his front steering yoke (I think thats what its called) this 'should' give a bigger scrub radius. not exactly sure what that will do but very interesting.

more interesting than that is the back of BK's car

slider drive shafts! oh how 80's :P

as long as they don't bind, I would rather have slider shafts than normal type, although in that pic, the diff outdrives look kind a too long, putting the U/J to far out, otherwise, they look like the old JRX Pro shafts (if I remember right)

Still, the camber angle on that car looks almost verticle to me, even leaning out......

Are these works Losi drivers???

new bodyshell... thank god. anyone who had to paint detail over those three "nipples" at the front of the sidepods of the old car will know why im glad to see rid.

now not that i would stir, but in the past, did the new bodyshell not usually precede a revised car.... the XXL shell just befor the xxke, the phobia before the XXXKE, the "hot weather" just before the worlds edition XX4?

i could be wrong (and am very sorry if i am....) ;)

Doughty

these are THE cream of losi drivers, not many people get a car named after them ;D

and you could have a point about the worlds edition car.

I know what you mean about the UJ being waaay out past the wishbone pivot, I can't see why he has done it?

from the look of both cars they are trying VERY hard to get rid of rear end grip, or get some front end grip.

DA_cookie_monstA

You can ALWAYS dial out grip from a car, but to dial it in, when it is naturally not there is VERY hard.

As for the driveshafts, they may well of had them knocking about and thought they would try them, with the theory that it would give better throttle response (no backlash there).

Sure is ugly though, with those big shock towers...

I think those are the pre productions ones, mine look a little more slender thatn those.

notice the BK's one is all sparkley... ::)

Mr Doughty, if you ever get a car named after you, just have your first name. I can tell the wife it's named after me then ;)

Looks good Andy, how did it run?

AndyG
04-11-2003, 11:36 AM
Really, really well. (Many thanks to my mate Steve Kirk for the setup).

Got it last tuesday, built it Tues and Weds night. Electrics done Thursday night, setup + tidy up job Saturday.

It got it's first race at the Teeside NE regional on Sunday, where I finished 10th, which to say I haven't driven a 4WD since I had a ProCat is a great result. I was (and still am) well chuffed.

We'd changed a few things from the setup given in the manual, mainly pistons and steering geometry, but the car absolutely FLEW!

The car really suited my driving style as it had plently of grip / steering. In fact too much to start with as it was grip rolling if you put full lock on too quickly. Moving the cells back sorted that out straight away.

I'm a happy chappie!!

;D

Jimmy takes a good picture. Best bit is me in the background though, even though you can only see a bit of me ;D

Your buggy looked good on Sunday, Andy, good to see you haven't jumped on the MR4 BC special bandwagon.

i see you chris.

some from batley may know i runa xxx-4 (non graphite)
is there any advantage in havingt graphite, apart from losi making more money out of me ??? :(
does it improve the cars performance.
also andy, i notcied you have the Ti nitrate shock shafts in there (think thats wot their called), are they standard or extra's. do they make a difference from the standard ones?
i don't want to be spending 28 quid on some shafts (7 quid each ???) to find out there is no point in buying them!?!?!?!

Doomanic

Buy the MIP shafts, only £4 each, and they make the Losi ones! :o

They're standard with the G+ kit. Don't know what differece they make as I've never had anything else!! (1st car was a Kinwald XXX in April, and bought the G+ last week - both habe ti-nitride shock shafts).

I presume they're stronger.

The titanium nitride (TiN) coating is much smoother than the polished steel ordinary shock shafts are made from, so shock action is improved.
Under the TiN coating is an ordinary steel shaft, which is no stronger than an OE shaft.
If you keep a set in use (straight) for long enough, the TiN coating will wear off and the steel show through.

Doughty

Robbed.. I thought the shaft was titanium... I am about to edit my previous post for 'bad facts' ::)

EDIT - in above comment it would have been far funnier to have said 'shafted' instead of 'robbed' ::)

07-11-2003, 05:08 PM
hahah,
i wish they were titanium, i think that TiR make some for about 11 quid a shaft or something silly like that :o :o :o.

is it worth upgrading to such as TiN shafts, graphite parts etc for club level???

richard_cree
07-11-2003, 05:14 PM
I think the TiNi shafts are a great idea, bear in mind that even if your suspension is free on the table it will bind up loads when on the track and subjected to loads - this is why F1 have carbon flexures (solid mounting to the tub/ no pivot), whilst they have more resistance to suspension movement when static than rose joints, they have exactly the same resistance when on the track, whereas rose joints bind up.

The coating should really help reduce the binding, free up suspension and if it has been done right the coating should last for a really long time.

Taken straight from Losi's web site:

These new hi-tech pins feature the unmatched strength of hardened drill blank steel with the space age ultra hard and friction free Titanium Nitride coating. Team Losi pioneered the use of Titanium Nitride on shock shafts to reduce friction and prevent wear.

Still doesn't answer the question of do they improve performance though ;D ;D

On Chris's advice earlier today, I have just ordered a complete set. Mainly because of the shaft length, than the coating.....

Team Losi pioneered the use of Titanium Nitride on shock shafts to reduce friction and prevent wear.

They also claim to have pioneered the single belt drivetrain. >:(
Perhaps someone should e-mail them the dictionary definition of pioneered! ;D

TiN has been used on suspension components in the automotive and motorcycle industry for years! Marzocchi had motorcycle forks with TiN coating in the early '80's!

Let me clarify things about "Chris's advice"

I meant Doughty, he has been very helpful with tweaking my suspension !!!

I was quite happy using the standard shock shafts, they perform well and I doubt
that I will see any difference in performance just by changing the shafts. However,
I am changing the shafts for multiple reasons. I dont actually like the gold colour !!!!

I know, I'm a sad deprived person ;D ;D
