Just announced by Tamiya

58310 1/10 Scale R/C 4WD Mercedes-Benz CLK-DTM

For this new addition to the R/C Car Series, Tamiya introduces the TB-02. Based on TB Evolution III, the TB-02 chassis can be fitted with aluminum and carbon parts designed for the TB Evolution III. For the first model using this chassis, Tamiya has chosen the popular Mercedes-Benz CLK-DTM Team Vodafone AMG-Mercedes.

53677 TB-02 Stabilizer Set (F & R)
In order to improve stability on high grip roads, Tamiya offers a stabilizer set for the TB-02 chassis.

53678 TB-02 Aluminum Racing Steering Set
To obtain a more secure attachment and more direct response on cornering, Tamiya offers an aluminum steering set for the TB-02. Combined with a carbon plate, you obtain a TB-EVO III style chassis.

53679 TB-02 SSG Carbon Center Plate This option part carbon center plate attaches to the bottom of the main frame of the TB-02 chassis, providing more solid pitching, more accurate suspension settings, and reduced power loss.

53680 TB-02 Aluminum Motor Mount
This blue anodized Aluminum Motor Mount allows drivers to lighten their chassis for higher performance. Like the regular part included with the TB-02 chassis, this aluminum mount features 4 different motor positions allowing 12 gear ratios when combined with various pinions.

53681 Titanium Wheel Axle for Assembly Universal Shaft
This Titanium Wheel Axle has been designed for the Assembly Universal Shaft to be mounted on the TB Evolution III and TA04 chassis and can be mounted at the front and at the rear. Its lightweight (only 2g) provides reduced power loss and a higher top speed.

ohhh will this still be a rally car? sounds like a re-new onroad racer. i think tamiya is putting too much money into onroad racers and should put some back off road. now another choice, tb01, tb02, tt01, tb evo 2,3, 414m, 414m2, ta04r-ss-s-trf-r tuned, and that is all i can remember now. i love tamiya but they shoud throw their hat into another ring.

I am afraid at the moment onroad is where its at. Tamiya are simply meeting the demands of the consumer. A couple of years ago people used to say: "why don't tamiya make a serious touring car? all they make is toys" etc... now that they do make more serious onroad cars we shouldn't complain. Maybe a competition off road buggy may be a good idea though.

I hope the new Neo Shot will not be another toy.

I think the neo shot will be developed for competition use. Supposedly people saw the TRF running prototype versions with a c/f chassis.

OH yeah I saw it. Maybe it is time for Tamiya to make their impression felt among the other wanna bee rc makers!!! It is about time. I hope I don't eat my words hehe. ;D

nThe new Tb-02 chassis comes out with the current Mercedes body from the German route car championship. As also with the Tb-01 the drive is made by a central cardan shaft with lengthwise-arranged engine. The tub chassis was designed as narrowly as possible, in order to achieve as central an emphasis as possible. The cardan shaft was manufactured from easy Alumium. Ball differentials in front and in the back, a complete taper roller bearing set and adjustable upper wishbones belong to the basis equipment of the new Tb-02!

They used to be in the Early 90's, but they just seemed to get bored, and maybe couldn't see a mrket in it, but some of the cars they did were VERY good, being the Super Astute and the Top Force Evoloution (I had both), very reliable, very strong and not too heavy.

But that TB02, don't it look like a TC3!!!

YES!

Still, rather have a Tamiya TB02 than a TC3 I think, get a stronger car, and just SOOO much better moulding....

The Tamiya racing parts ooze quality from what I remember....

I think I would go for the shock towers and drive train hop ups, but I DO like a tub chassis outdoors, much easier to weather protect.

looking at the tb02 it looks like a plastic evo3 right?
so, does it come with a front diff?
I am asking as I am still struggling to buy all the parts to build a front diff for my evo and thought if this car had a diff up front I could probably buy it as a complete unit.....

if you can be arsed to wait, tamiya are going to be releasing the full diff unit soon :D

you know the F201 diffs are the same as the Evo3, do they not do a complete one for that?

Will be good to have one of these cars for a rally car with a scubby shell, hard rough terrain tyres and power slide heaven.

hi
ive got a tbo2, i won it at compertion.
what gear ratio are you guys running?

minijosh
28-01-2004, 05:47 AM
I'm running a 20 tooth pinion on the #2 spur if that helps. I'm running a 19 turn chamelion 2 pro also. I thought bigger would have been better but this is perfect for our track at Risby. Sometimes small and tight and other times wide. Make sure you paint the shell like a pro and don't race it. Get a racing shell so you don't ruin a real shell.

what shock oil and pistons (holes)are you running?

minijosh

I think you'll find (as I have) that they are not quite the same. The diff balls, rings, etc. are the same, but the diff outputs, sadly, aren't.

And yes, I have bought one for spares! I do agree that the bodyshell is almost too good to race, but if I don't race it then it'll just collect dust and then there will be a classic shell in the shed in 20yrs time!

It's not a bad chassis considering it is based on the Evo 3 and has a lot of high spec components... Perhaps the only criticism is the plastic motor mount with limited pinion selection.

Told you before , you needed to get one with a rally body and take it for a bash rally car style.

Hmmmm, I think the flexible chassis will fail the challenge off-road and 'torque' the single rigid propshaft into fowling the gears and then I'll cry ;D

I race my TB-02 at my Local Club and it does half go. I have replaced my Ta-04 Pro with it and I most say that Tamiya have produced a decent racer for the Money. One complaint it the plastic diff joints - broke one after 6 meetings. I know they are quite cheap to replace but a question I need to ask is that can you use the TB3 Evolution diff joint in the Super Stock Class in Tamiya Eurocup?
