not an expert but i would suspect the receiver first of all. check all your connections, plugs and solder joints and try again.

Sounds like you're having a problem with power getting to the receiver. Check all the servo/esc plugs, and make sure the crystals aren't knackered (you can tell whether its broken if the crystal has a wobbly leg, or if there is faint rattling if you shake it. Alternatively, try some different crystals if you have them). Check your battery plugs to make sure they are making a connection. To see whether it is the receiver, try another one (if you have one. If not, borrow one for 30 seconds!). Other than that I don't know what else to suggest. :-

If the ESC doesn't light up, then there may be a problem there. Check all wiring, switches etc, and make sure that there are no loose connections. Also, change your crystal, that may have been damaged.

The esc not working could be down to a number of things;
Complete lack of power (check battery wires)
No signal from receiver, so not adjusting to neutral (check receiver wires, crystal etc...)
The worst scenario - the esc has blown (throw it in the bin or try and get it repaired, if thats possible!)

be VERY careful plugging your batts into the rec.
if I remember correctly you speedo steps down the volts so you rec only gets 6v not 7.2v from your batteries.
please check before you smoke something
