Are the shaft drive rumours true?
I've heard that Xray will be releasing / or at least producing the parts for a 1/10 shaft drive tourer in the coming months?
::) should be exciting if true!?!

Hi Peter
Being that the Factory Kit is going to be released in the next couple of weeks it would not make sense to release a shaft drive car now!!!
The rumours are NOT TRUE. X-Ray do continously develop parts which can be seen in the Factory Kit car this season!
Hope that clears up that rumour

Ok thanks Ben - it was good to see that the Pro 4 won't have it all it's own way when you won at Don Valley. The FT is obviously well up for the job
thanks for clearing that up! :D

In fairness, rumours of shaft drive xray's have been on the go for about a year now, think the 1/18th car started this back up as well.
There was a poll of xray owners in vip room as to which drive train would be prefered on a new car, at one stage.
To be honest the xray has proved the rule of thumb wrong by sticking with belts, they are every bit as fast as existing shaft cars. Tamiya has resorted back to belts now I believe as well.

Wouldn't it be fantastic if they were producing parts for the rebirth to the Ttech T1. ;D
just to hear the painfull sound one more time :-[ :-[ :-[ ;D

What would X-ray have to gain by making a shaft drive 1/10th touring car when they already have one of the best touring cars around which just happens to be belt drive.

Money...
Think of the number of people who would go out and buy it!

Well I thought the rumour was from Xray themselves!?, someone was enquiring into the availability of the latest M18 parts and was told they won't be coming until mid - April as they were making all the bits for this new car. I think the parts that Xray were talking about were either the new Factory Team kit OR more likely the new 1/8 off roader - so I think that's why the confusion set in. I know the 'rumour' of shaft drive 1/10 has been fairly well publicised when they released the 1/18.
As for PeterMark, I thought you were a Pred fan, don't you believe that shaft is superior even when it's proven on the CAD system?! (don't quote me on that)
That's a question I've never asked Centre.Point and I'd love to hear them somehow explain that the present Xray is more efficient (in principle) than the TTech T1.
I think a more difficult question to answer would be which is more efficient between a two belt system or the single one belt of the Losi.
Isn't the problem with belts that while ever they travel around the pulleys - they forever want to pull the two together? (exagerated) - this is where shaft pays off.
I digress, they are not making a shaft drive. Tamiya (as far as I know) are still pursuing a shaft drive car, possibly not using it at the World's. Looking at some of the top races the TRF 415 has won, sometimes the EvoIII has still been fifth or in the A somewhere - so this just shows how close the belt vs shaft is on the track. But I thought computers never lie???
I agree Xray would make a fortune by 'cashing in' on the shaft drive phenomenon - as long as the car can compete at the top, there's probably no need.
I've aways been a shaft drive follower, I hate stripping drive belts - ever. I've never replaced a prop shaft yet ;)
ps Al - there could well be a TTech T1 coming to a race track near you soon! - so get yer ear muffs on ;D
The one that richard ran up at your club ? :D

Strip belts ? More pple have had problems stripping gears on their TB Evo 3 and Pro 4 than belts on the TRF 414 and Pro 2 (Pro3 was a mistake, agreed ?). My trf 414 belts lasted one year, and still I replaced them more as security than need.
Only thing is that you have to check the pulleys and replace them when necessary. But on the other side, driveshafts lasts longer.
Anyway, as Ben said there is the new FT coming out soon (if not released yet !) so why mess around a shat driven car ?

I've been though 3 belts in the last three weeks on the Evo2, even with both set to their tightest setting. Bought a Pro4 at the weekend because it was annoying me so much.
I still don't think there is any performance difference between belt and shaft though.

Well Josh Cyrul has just won the carpet nationals, winning the first 2 rounds of the final. The l*si's seem to be going well also (3rd and 4th). Do you get what im saying ::)

Wouldn't a T1 shaft conversion be interesting?

Would require a new chassis or bulheads to allow location of shaft and new diff gears, wouldnt be good with diffs not sealed in a gearbox. So basically a new car would be created, not a drive train conversion.
Plus why is anyone worrying about making it shaft drive, the existing car with the short wishbones is awesome.

Could that be the problem then, I run the belts as loose as possible.

Well they skip under acceleration and under braking, damn car sounds like a Losi... :o
It's done for the time being, I'm keeping the car as it really does handle beautifully and I may well run it in stock where there isn't a problem. Looks like the Pro4 for 19t this year though.

hmm, sounds like your puleys are worn out. In any case, when you change the belt you should change the pulleys and vice versa.

That may be the reason my one is Ok, I run 19turn and stock with no problems

having read the whole thread, if there was a car it could be 1/10th off road! if there was such a plan!

i've had my t1r for 4months (or more) and i'm still on the original pulleys and belts :D , i don't see any problem with it skipping with acceleration or braking :)

me too, I bought my T1R in august and never replaced a belt or pulley. they don't slip, while I'm on the loosest setting in the front and 2 holes looser than standard on the back. :)

even without the belt tensioner, the belt is still not slipping. I'm quite amazed because I thought it would skip after seeing older belt technology. The Xray seems just to chug along even after hitting other stuff. It was actually quite amusing at a club race. A yokomo racer hit my brother's Xray from the rear on purpose...arghhh, I hate dirty hacks...anyways, the yoke driver broke a wishbone, the Xray was fine...I still laugh at that yoke driver. (I'm not dissing or putting down yoke drivers or anything)

I have had the origianal T1 since it came out and the belt hasnt skipped yet. Doesnt seem to be a problem with the xray some of the losi's sound horrible though.
