Was the Fireblade that bad? Or was it R&D towards the new car?

Hi
In answer to your question. No the fireblade is not a bad car at all. Infact at my club fireblades are beating the B4's irespective of the driving capailitys. But back to the subject the only reason the fireblade aint at the top is because we have no drivers, cos every one is driving the B4's because they look cool.

Just to let you know, the design of the car harks back to about 1993, the chassis and layout has remained unchanged basically sinece then. Yes they change the shock mounts and maybe the wishbones, but back then it was competitive, but never realy got vastly better, thats why at the top level it is a BIG struggle.

Steve, To be fair every 2wd has had the same type of layout since the early 90's. The blade is quite a bit different to the cougar despite apearences, that said yes there are similarities. also the different varients of the blade were all an improvement over the previous one.

I suppose you could say that you have a WIDE selection of shock towers and front wishbones to choose from, but the car isn't THAT much different to the original blade that came out, and still suffers I think from not enough droop.
One thing about them though, if it had the smooth Diff in that gearbox, the thing would be bullet proof, that box has GOT to be the best I have used out of the AE/Losi/Schumacher group.
Biggest shame is that they sell the car at such a pants spec, it just costs too much to even bring it up near a B$ spec car.

Origional blade had different wishbones, hubs, suspension/shock geometry, weight distribution, gearbox.
other than that, yeah it's fairly similar ;D
The current Blade works well on certain tracks, but can be a little difficult on others. I got mine to 3rd at the Belgian GP in 02 and the car was very good to drive all weekend.
Agreed the transmission is very good, and it is also light - much lighter than the B4 as the outdrives are Alloy and not steel.
I was thinking of getting a Fireblade for 2wd, simply because I don't really want to drive anything other than a schumacher. (Don't ask me why, I don't really know, maybe its that noise the Cat XLS's used to make, they sounded fast).
What would I need to bring it up to a fairly competitive spec at club level, I am not a good enough driver to think about anything further than that atm :)
Cheers

At club level it wouldn't be that bad out of the box. There was a guy at my local that won a car. He just ran it as it came out of the box and did fairly well with it.
I will probably give one a try then :) The track I run on is a fairly smooth grass track, well maintained with a couple of middle sized jumps. Should be ok for that, right?
Cheers

Yeah shouldn't be too bad. You might need a slipper, that will depend on what motors you are running through it.

I had a Fireblade for the outdoor welsh and found it quite competitve out of the box but it just did'nt seem to be the same standard as the other buggys because I had problems with the shocks leaking and I never had a slipper clutch plus a few other things needed changing. I was thinking of buying hop up for it and thought by the time I spent all that money on it I would still want a B4 so I bought a B4 and It worked out around the same price I would have spent on the fireblade including the price of the buggy, and the B4 just looks a better and more competitive buggy.
So you've taken it out of the box then Rich, are you going to use it? [lol] ;D

If you mean take my fireblabe out of the box it has been out but someone was'nt racing to see it ::) But if you mean my B4 then no its not comeing out because I don't want to get it dirty ;D ;D but theres no need to be nasty just because you have an OLD B3 ;D ;D

ER.... Well i have driven the car for the last 4 years, and the car has been very good. Ive made many A finals at Nationals with it, and won a leg, won Regional Championships and finished 12th at the Euros so not quite sure how u can say that we have no drivers? ::)
Back to the point, the Fireblade is not quite as competitive as it used to be, especially with the heavy investment by both Losi and Associated in their respective cars. Dont forget Schumacher have been developing both the new Mission and a new Cat. I will be driving a B4 whilst we POTENTIALLY look to develop a new 2wd.
Never actually driven a fireblade, but i have raced against them many times over the years with my xx-cr indoors. The fireblades always go well on flat tracks and are damn quick but still very rarely beat my losi.
The firblade rides so flat on the track there is very little roll out of it where as the losi is the complete opposite the front end on my car is bouncing about all over the place on the gas and diving in to corners, damn good fun to watch :D
