Hi guys,

A quick question regarding having shims under the t-bar balls. I know that having some under both raises the rear roll centre and can give some extra rear grip, but I have been reading some set-ups that have different numbers under the front and rear balls.

How does inclining the t-bar affect the handling (I am assuming that it will....) Most have some under the front and none under the rear. Does this have the same effect as anti-squat on a touring car?

Help!

yeah your right. shims under the front give anti squat effect, under the rear you get pro squat. generally i think you only run them under the front

Just reading my touring car manual, it says that if you have shims under the back of the wishbone you increase the anti squat. Not at the front.

As I thought. So, how does this affect the handling? Never really got my mind around it on the touring cars.....

If the T-bar is tipped up by shims under the front ball, you lose a bit of steering but the car rides any bumps a bit better. Lower the front ball and you get a bit more steering - but it is not as predictable to drive.

As a general rule, run the T-bar level. Remember that this is checked when the screws are down at the front on Associated-type designs. This 'shimming' doesn't apply for Corally and Calandra as their designs are different. Post to their specific car threads on here if you want to know about them.
