removing paint from springs

I have just spent an evening removing the paint/plastic coating from my touring car springs. The springs feel better for its removal and I was wondering if anyone else has done this and what difference did it make when the springs were on the car?

Why have you done this?

I took the paint off gray offroad springs to make them slightly softer. But when the red springs came out there was no need for the gray springs without paint.

Mark, I've never done it to the touring car springs but i always do it to off rd springs. I think the Plastic is quite thick and hence does quite a lot of "Damping" to the spring action. I'm not convinced that this is a good thing.
