I am looking to buy a motor to go in my losi xxx to race outdoors, other people in my club use 11 double motors.
my question is, what difference is there in a £56 modified motor and the ones you see for £20-£25 ish.
I know the dearer ones are hand wound, but is this the only difference? and how much slower will a £20 one be,
thanks.

SPUD bought a £20 15x2 brand new. He ran it twice and found it was absolute pants. I think he gave it to his 6 year old son as a practice motor. You will notice the difference between a low price mod and a £50 mod motor. Why not try a 19T spec motor. I use one and for £28 its great. Not a massive difference in it between my trinity 12x2 and my DEMON 19T spec when geared right in my B4.

On the other hand ...

I have used Orion ProBB and Reedy MachMod motors - machine wound and in the lower price ranges (£30 ish). They have been excellent. Go well, very consistent, easy to set and maintain. I would recommend them without hesitation.

One guide I would give - if others are running 11 x 2 hand-wound motors, you might want to get a 10 x 2 machine-wound. Hand-wound motors are better for a given wind, but you can make up some of the gap by buying a lower wind machine-wound, also gearing lower - say one pinion less than the ideal 10-turn ratio to start with.

I'd give the machine-wound a go, but stick to Orion, Reedy, Peak and Trinity only, go one turn lower, and gear it lower to start with. Make certain that the motor is ballraced though, some aren't. They WILL give problems!! HTH :)

Agree on that PDW, but the motor i was talking about was an orion, so be careful which one you pick.
