Mark,

On advice from my lawyer, I am exercising my rights under the Fifth Amendment.

Oh!, sorry, we are not yet living under the rule of Vice-President Blair. I have the right to remain silent...

... and to run my Reflex at Chesterfield and for the rest of the season!! ;D ;D

News from CML is that the new car should be in sometime next month.

Expect the diff to last longer between rebuilds and the front end to be more adjustable to high grip situations.

Otherwise you get loads of blue bits, a stronger front end and more adjustability with the moveable cell placement.

Cheers

Paul,

Do you know what they've done to the diff yet? Have they used the Yok one?

How can you ever get bored of 1/12th circuit?! :o

I know it uses a dual bearing like the IRS diff
Also uses D shafe diff rings so you can run the diff a little looser without slipping

Any news from CML yet as to how much these will be?

Associated have put them at $299.99 which is about £165! Better start saving ;)

Mark Stiles

About the same price as the L3 then!

Does this mean there'll be a schumacher mission scenario, where the L3 will be available for a pittance for a couple of months after the L4 hits the shelves?

Sounds like they have used the Yok' design, with being able to run it looser you don't destroy the center bearing either.

Sorry about this but I have my cynics head on this morning, I would imagine by the time they get into the UK they will be nearer (if not above) the £200 mark. Having said that I hope CML will prove me wrong!!

Hmm,

Looks like evolution not revolution then!!!

Why change somthing if it works!!!

Or Does IT!!!

Stay with the Calandra thanks. Still don't like the Tape method for Cell Restraint!!!

If it takes your fancy looks like a well engineered car and I'm sure for the ones who clean their diff regulary, then a little less car perp then!!!

Might be tempted!!!

Clive.

Still prefer taping the cells in over an elastic band!!

Cell taping is easy when you have a "Roger-me-jig" (Copyright R Manwaring 2003)

This high-tech, lightweight, high-polymer, impact resistant device is the product of painstaking development over a number of years. Combining the best of contemporary design, and based on a Victorian principle, the "Roger-me-jig (Copyright R Manwaring 2003) allows simple, quick and precise tape positioning and tension.

Banish those race-day blues, put an end to sticky messes, never again miss the start of your race while your mate cuts you out of a roll of tape with an axe. "Roger-me-jig" (Copyright R Manwaring 2003) - your friend in the pit lane!!

And you lot think I am joking! It is so simple, so useful - so get one!!

Hmm, getting silly.

How can a bunch of blokes racing extremley fast missles round a track get any more stupid?

If you are talking about the pitting conversations and actions we might need another topic!!!

Anyway, the new Associated Car.

Not seen any pictures, but if the previous build and car design is anything to go by, it won't be slow round the track out of the box!

I told you that you would think I was joking - I'm not. (Yeah Al, Tractite is coooool and makes me so... sore headed!! I found some in the shed last night - God that stuff was eeeeevilll!!)

I can't post a photo here, but try this...

Make a strip of lexan (old bodyshell scraps will do) about 20mm wide and 75mm long - straight and flat. Attach one end to your tape. Fix the loose end of tape to one cell at one end of the pack, and pull it down under the chassis for about 10 mm (so it is in place)

Now, thread the strip of lexan (Roger-me-jig) through the other end of the chassis so it pulls the tape up next to the cell at the other end of the pack. Gently pull the tape taut under the chassis so it is flat and even. Pull the Roger-me-jig over the cell and across the top of the pack. Remove the Roger-me-jig and push the rest of the tape down. Smooth out the tape under the chassis. QED!!

The demonstration team will be at CARS this weekend showing how this modern wonder can revolutionise your life, and offering the product in simple, DIY, kits at a special exhibition price of £1.99!! ;)

Oh yes - the theme of this thread; the new Associated car.

I think I might give one a try at the Double Crown if it is here in time - but I think the CEFX C12 is more deserving of my hard-earned.

Apparently the car is not finished yet.

At the ROAR Carpet Nats (last weekend) in the US, the Associated guys were running the new L4 front end on the L3 chassis.

Must have worked, Mike Blackstock won 12th Mod!

Having said that, he has won practically ALL the US triple crown races, with the "old" L3 ...

Can't wait to see one. Will post some pictures when (if) i find them!

Mark,

I don't ditch cars, I merely progress from one make to another at appropriate points in time! ;D And I only said I'd try them - not use them. Reckon the s/hand market will be good if they don't suit me - don't you? I like my Reflex, and it will take some determination to change for next season. Progress...!

If you can afford it then there's nothing stopping you I suppose! Its going to take me a good few months to save up for an L4, or a CEFX if I decide to get one of those instead of a trusty associated!

I think I will just buy the new bits for the front suspension so I can try running 5 degrees reactive castor rather than 10.
The rest of the car is very nice but I can't see anything that will make it go any faster than an L3.

Mark,

You mean the nice new blue-coloured bits AREN'T worth 2/10th per lap - I am really disappointed!!! LOL ;D
