tamia do little T27s (treaded rubber tyres) that fit the hotrod wheels..
they should work, but you don't get a great deal of ground clearance, but given a nice piece of tarmac... there is no reason why not!!
as for setup i don't have a clue!

There is a rubber tyre I think they are called bigboys or something that are REALLY grippy. They give about 3 times the grip of Mardave ones. Haywards Heath club sell them I think.

When I used to run a V12 at our (indoor tarmac) club, I used the kit foams, and they were gone after a run! I raised the ride height up a bit though, stopped the screws from hitting the surface.

they dont give much grip on any surface, the orange ones

they're good on the front outside of a 1/12th stockcar, but they take a good half a dozen laps to start working. Other than that, I don't use them at all!

LOL i use precision oranges on the front of my V12 at the Grays RCCC track, uses a normal carpet to most other tracks, think its called Primafelt but im not very sure ???
They dont seem to work bad around the track but i do like my car to understeer a lot, becuase if i have oversteer with my 19-turn quad magent and 6 cell 3000's the back just flies right out and is uncontrollable....
Lol you are missing out on the fun of a mardave with 6 cells and a good motor if you havent already tried it, hehe.

I have tried it... its called saloon stox!
Around a circuit, I wasn't any faster with 6 cells and the same motor!

It's you who is missing out on the fun of mardaves by not actually racing them alex. As lewis said, they're great indoors on a carpet track, especially if you get a few of you who are all on about the same pace!
Me and lewis tried 6 cells with modified motors (I used a 12x2). It wasn't much fun, because it made the cars too fast and they wouildn't handle. Lewis melted his spur gear as well!
4 cells with mabuchi motors is much better; closer racing!
If I wanted outright speed I'd buy a 1/8th IC circuit car or something! :P (even though I can't afford to race one cometitively!)

couldn't agree more stick to indoor carpet tracks with 4 cells and the mabuchi RS540SH. After all that is what they were designed for! ;D

i wouldn't neccessarily say stick to indoors, becuase i still like messing around outside when i get spare time, its just nice to bash arround, but its not racing!
Not only is it nice because you get to tinker on your car and get it setup how you like it (i always have my superglue out :P ) but you can chat to other people with the same interests and get a bit of banter going with them!
P.S. keep up the quest for speed though.. i have in the pipeline.. it is at a very early stage yet.. i.e. i havn't started building it yet, but i am going to make a 12 cell mardave based drag car.. running a 10 turn motor, 12 cells and an V50 (the V50s run down to 10 turns and run 15 volts!!)
goodness knows how fast it is going to go.. i dread to think, but it will be exciting!!

i must admit i do muck around outside occasionally to spread the word of our wonderful sport!!! ;D
as for a 12 cell v12 with a 10 turn motor all i can say is you better have good brakes because that is going to go like a rocket!!! ;D

spur gears last 30 secs if that
is their any alternative to the mardave spur?
Mark Stiles
02-04-2004, 07:26 PM
No, unless you use a 1/12th circuit or a 1/12th stockcar rear axle assembly. Then you could use kimbrough spurs which are more robust.
Charles King

i think the problem is the rear hub is attached to the spur gear!

Hell yes! us I.C guys play with them at night ( cant run I.C after certain times at some tracks ) and we use Mardave's own rubber tyres that come with foam inserts they work fine see link below
http://www.trackside.co.uk/Mendip.htm
Also if you run indoors on carpet that does not use tyre addative they work just as good and you dont chunk tyres

I think you'd be surprised how fast a lot of the people on here actually get a mardave to go around a carpet track. We use mabuchi 540 motors, esc's and 4 cell packs, but even that makes them so fast that rubber tyres don't provide anywhere near the amount of grip thats required (especially without additive!)
Come to milton keynes this weekend if you live in that area, as there is a large mardave national/worlds meeting being held on saturday and sunday in a sports centre. For more info, check out the BRCA 12th oval section on here.

as the thread seems to have become a bit lost try this:
down here at haywards heath we race V12s all summer outdoors on a fairly large tarmac school playground
the tyres that seem to work quite well are :
the Mardave supplied mini sized T27 tryes(same as roadrunner mini express)
the tamiya mini treaded tyres with a softish insert(as used on ML-O1 and M-O3 fwd minis)
or (from your local helpful model shop) mini hawgs use the supplied insert (quite expensive but last forever) hope this helps
:)
