I have a CAT 3000 I purchased some time ago.

I have never actually run it properly as I seem to have some sort of problem with the drivetrain.

When there is no motor installed it is really smooth when pushed along.

But when a motor is installed it seems really tight, when I power it up it creates a very high pitched whizzing noise. (I guess its the motor pinion on the spur gear) The pinion is the correct 48dp.

I have checked that the pinion is not too tight against the spur gear and also not too loose.

I would be grateful for any advice on this.

check to see whether the allen key screw thing isnt rubbing against the spur gear. Also, the gear on the bottom of the drive train has to be tight or the belts will run really loose which may bause the problem. Other than that just make sure the mesh is perfect

Mogsy,
If you are going to Southports club one Sunday, then it may be worthwhile just letting Barry Weldon have a look at your car before you race it, he has a Cat and im sure he'll recognise anything out of place. He is a tall broad guy with very blonde hair, drives a Focus state (full scale).
