Hi,

I have a d5 motor with an 11t infinity armature in it. After my friend got the comm cut it has stopped working properly. To get it to start and have to turn the shaft and then when i let off the throttle i have to start it up again. I have tried a new endbell, can, brushes, springs, shims, bearings and it still doesnt work but when i tried an 11turn d5 armature it worked fine. I dont see how it can be a sticky brush because the brushes are new and the springs are as well, the hoods are also clean and free of dirt. I have narrowed it down to an armature problem. Does anyone know what is wrong with it and how i can fix this, please help. Thank you

The D5 uses larger brushes than most. I also think the coms on D5's are of the mid size 9mm variety, whereas the infinty arms have a standard com size ( slightly smaller )

I suspect that there is too much brush overlap on the com, so the motor is effectively stalled.

My honest advice is;
1. Use the D5 arm in the D5 can
2. You could try carefully filing down both sides of the brush, but only 3mm from the com end,
otherwise the brush will "float" in the end bell and you dont want that.

The only other thing is the Infinity are has had it. Not enough material left on the com.
In which case, it's a bin job and replace the arm.

D5's are std size comm.

Jack, I'm assuming this is the same issue you raised a while back. If you are sure that it is related to that armature, then it seems sure that the comm solder tags have thrown the solder off and hence the arm is no longer any use to you.

Yeah, one of the stacks has blown, the arm is a bin-job I am afraid. Maybe you mate cut through the stakes as suggested above, maybe he left copper swarf in the slots in the comm, maybe it is just all a co-incidence and you have suffered a blown stack.

It happens, bin the arm and move on.
