Because of the weather the surface is quite soft and just clogs pins up with mud = no grip. (plus there are holes in the roof so when it rains the track gets drenched!)
I ran Proline m3 steppins and losi studs (silver) (think they called that) on my 4wd a couple of months ago and the losi ones worked better. They seemed very consistant and easy to drive dispite this being my first meeting in nearly 4 years they still made it easy enough to drive to get second overall for the day) so there must be some good in the tyres!
On 2wd normally run m3 ribs on front and steppins on back tends to give the best grip over the race.
In a couple of months the surface will probably be good enough for BB mini pin pinks
As far as i know these tyres are the best for me unless someone wants to correct me on better tyres? :P

ah ha... Mr McGoo... you decided to race a proper car then? ;D
I would run the tires that are specified as the nationals nominated tire.

Mr McGee & Mr Doughty
Went down this Sunday just gone. Started on M3 Step Pins and Silver Ribs, then moved to Losi Red Studs sticking with the Silver Ribs.
The car improved quite a lot on Red Studs compared to Step Pins (gave more drive). I think I would have benifitted from RED ribs, but didn't have any :(
If you fancy a copy of my set-up, I'll have it with me at the Indoors :D
To answer your original question, the change of tyre was centered around the fact that no 4WD front step pin exists (apart from Cut & Shut), and as the BB Pins don't work on the newly laid surface (higher percentage of sand) the second tyre choice needs to be readily availible and work well.
See you Saturday,
Phil

Extra Note,
The Losi Studs are hot favourites to become the second tyre choice for the National
Although thats my opinion and not the official BRCA decision ;)
Will update when it's confirmed

That is indeed the case. Interesting tyre choice you made there Phil, thought it was M3 step pins only. Any chance you could PM me a setup, won't be doing the nationals but will be there for the next winter series.

This info was posted on brca website on 10th march 2004 under 1/10 offroad nationals by Paul Worsley:
"The original entry form did not state the final nominated tyre choices for the Tiverton National.
These are now confirmed as being:-
Ballistic Buggy MiniPin
Losi Stud A7364 "
hope this helps
