Hi Mike
Theres normally a socket spare to use. Most people at the club run either 15.5 or 13.5 brushless systems. Failing that 27T stock brushed motors. Cells will be fine. As for gearing, im afraid i cant advise on that one, best bring it along and try it. Theres a model shop on site for bits and bobs and a tuck shop for your Mrs to get herself a cuppa. The only thing you will need are a set of schuey narrow yellow minpin tyres with 21mm rims - these are available from the shop on site.
Cheers

dont worry about correct tyres and motors for first visit i'm sure you will be ok to race to see how you get on.
as rick says mains power is usually available but the club prefers it if you supply you own (12v car battery) this must be kept in leakproof container so safety purposes (usually a kiddies plastic toy box is quite acceptable)
if you need any more info please keep posting !!!;)

Didnt say you cant use your own tyres but your sure gonna get fed up if all you can do is 360 degree spins on the spot cos you have got the wrong tyres on. Its polished wood we race on Mike. Tyres arent dear, £12 a set and they will last 3 or 4 weeks if you look after them or 2 weeks if you hammer them.
Pop over for a brew and to watch and you`ll see what its all about :)

my mate has offered me a carson 12t brushless system for my old tamiya ta-01 pilot cosworth, before i go through with the deal can any of you guys tell me if it will be ok to use this system?
preacher man-thanks for the words mate, although i dont whant to be one of thoose guys who has all the gear and no idea lol i dont whant to be the only one stuck in the dark ages also.
my plan is to come along this fri just to watch you guys in action and try get a feel for it,and also bring my car with the spares that i got with it and if some one could help me with a pinion and spur gear choice that would be great.
will i be able to get hold of a set of body mounts for my mr-4tc from the model shop in store?and does this models shop have a website?
thanks

Dont do any swopping yet Mike. Long term, i`ll stick my neck on the line and say that your 12T brushless sytem isnt going to be suitable. Like Dave says, we dont turn away new members if they turn up with the wrong gear. Stick with your brushed system to begin with, theres still a few people who run them ( 27T ). Dont worry about it for the first week or two though.
The classes at Louth are 15.5/17.5 brushless and 27T brushed together ( Club class )
or
13.5 Brushless
The track really isnt big enough to warrant anything quicker. You just end up spinning the tyres and wearing them out more quickly.
The shop doesnt have a website but he`s able to order you anything that you need as hes got accounts with all the importers. Give him a ring 01507 602149, his name is Pete and hes there every week.

Rich D
10-01-2010, 06:16 PM
Haha - yeah ive got one or two left Mike.
27T will be fine so dont worry about it. I`ll have a dig around in the garage and might even have one you can have for the cost of a cup of tea. If i find one i`ll bring it Friday. No warranty though ;)
Save your money for the wheels and tyres then you are good to go. Correct tyres are essential not a luxury :)

hi all
i am back with more newbie questions lol :D
is 14 Gauge Silicone Wire a good wire to use in gereral? e.g on motors etc.i no that the thicker the wire the better the result but can you go too thick?
and how do you measure the length of a body shell so it will fit my yokomo?is it wheel nut to wheel nut?if so mine is 260mm and there doesnt seem to be any 260mm shells around
thanks
mike
Jules

Hi Mike,
Bodyshells are measured by width. I would recommend sticking to tried and tested race oriented shells such as the Protoform Mazda Speed 6 etc. Avoid 'scale' looking shells such as Dodge Vipers, Lamborghinis etc. They just don't work for racing.
Regarding sizing of polycarbonate shells, the norm for 1/10 touring cars is 190mm measured across the width. Most RC shell manufacturers conform to this standard. Be careful you don't pick up a 200mm shell - usually designed for I.C. (nitro engine) cars.
14 gauge wire is relatively standard for motor and speed controller wiring. Again, look for the good quality 'silicon' types, specifically designed with RC use in mind.
I'm worried we're overloading you with information here! My advice would be to come on over, have a go and then you'll have a much better idea of what we're about.
Who knows, you might be the next Rich Drury.... ;)
Cheers

Cheers Mike. I just restore one at a time as i prefer to fiddle with such things than to sit melting my brain with EastEnders or such like. Ive got about all the cars i want for now although i have just treated myself to a vintage CAT XLS to restore :D
Completed ones are here if you wanted a look :)

Hi Mike
Just another thought. In common with most clubs LRCCC let members selling their unwanted kit Post it on the wall at race meetings. At any one time there may be complete cars down to motors and other bits & pieces at bargain prices. So as Rich says don’t rush into buying stuff straight away. Save it for the tyres.
