Hi guys, I could do with some advise with the steering on a xxx4g, I am running it standard settings, but I had trouble today at a outdoor grass track with lack of turn, not so much on sweeping corners but through a tight infield section it just did not have the ability to turn tight! I have heard of steering mods so maybe this is a way round it? I tried 3 differant tyres on the front to try to overcome this, Ballistic buggy 4wds, schumacher studs 4wd, and 2wd slim spikes. I had a go of a Cat at the end of the day and that had the turn through the infield I want from my Losi, so any help would be appreciated....Ian

some people have made extended steering arms, me being one of them.

I hope Tim will be able to post a picture of what I mean as he has done the same. it helps a pile with tight corners. it will save me a lot of typing too! ::)

If you don't want to do any major mods then you could try a shorter from camber link, and/or a higher ball stud position on the caster block.

EDIT - or you can have a look at my car if you are going to watford for the indoor finals, just come and ask

Hi Chris I would also be interested in seeing this mod, my xxx4 also seems to suffer on a small technical track with lack of steering, got the shocks sorted by customizing piston sizes (tracks very bumpy) would like to sort out the steering next.

Hi Chris, If it is the extended ali bits at an angle bolted on the control arms I have seen the mod. After my post I have looked at the lock travel and seen that 1 wheel will come to its stop piont weraz the opposite could have more. This will mean changing the ackerman? I am glad that I am not alone on this as I have been struggling a bit with the buggy and today was able to pin piont the problem, I think this will be a hurdle overcome as the next time I will race it will be the open round at the 2wd regional at 3A in a couple of weeks so a great place to test it out and catch a Cat thanks for the info, you have confirmed my suspisions, if it works for you I am getting modding....Ian

Jason - I will take a few pics when I am next with my car. yes it is the extension to the steering arms. it seems to give the outside wheel more lock so it has less ackerman but a tighter turning circle.

I think they in america, all though they have tight technical track, most of them are on dirt, they get the car rotating in the corner by sliding it around. the lock does not seem to be a problem.
In the UK, we tend to drive around the corners more due to the high bite tracks. I think the steering mod helps quite a bit.

not everyone runs it, I tried it and liked it, so I stayed with it.

Guys,

Like Chris said, if any of you are going to the indoor finals, please come over and see either Chris or myself.

The problem Red5 has got is easy to overcome if you have a Vantage tranny. There is a menu option that allows you to increase steering throw left or right. Dont get confused with steering rate, as this does both left and right simultaneously. The optin I'm on about will allow you to increase travel in either direction. I cant remember the exact menu, but pm for more details and I will let you know exactly what buttons to press.

The other things to check in order is 1. Ensure the servo saver is upright, not to one side.
2. Adjust the servo link arm, so that the bellcranks are exactly central. Both should be in the same position. 3. Make sure that both of the track rods from the bellcarnks to the steering hubs are exactly the same length.
Once you are happy that your car is setup as above, then you need to adjust the settings on the tranny.
Like I said earlier, come over and see me or Chris at Watford if you need any help doing this.

The other thing to do to add more steering is to place washers under the outside front camber link. I think you can get 3 spacers under the ball joint before it touches the wheel !!
