Is there any power disadvantage of using corally style connectors on a 12t mod motor, compared to direct soldering??

cheers

Theoretically yes, practically no - from an electrical standpoint.

However, they are prone to being knocked out in a crash, and they take up a lot of space in some chassis. It is also not good practice to have so much open metal so close together in the car where the main current for the motor is being fed. I avoid it. HTH :)

Current loss, Not that you would notice,

As for being knocked of, they will only be knocked of if they haven't been soldered on correctly, I have never had one come of the motor, even after a large in pack, and hitting the car against the corner of a wooden box flat out braking the chassis and smashing the end bell of the motor as a national, without a tube coming of is pretty good. and If it the metal of the tubes ever got that close I would have thought the tube/tag had broken of.

At our club there are probably only 2 people who don't use corally connectors, they can handle a larger current than dans as I understand, and are easier to pull apart and reconnect.

Looks untidy, if you've got a 12V soldering iron by the time you've pulled the motor out the iron can be hot and you can do a much neater job.

I don't understand why you'd go to all the hastle of fitting corallys to all your motors. Surely it would be easier to just solder the motors directly?
It just doesn't seem worth it!

Makes the tabs a lot more prone to breaking as well.

Andrew - by knocked out, I meant that the pins could come out of the tubes; seen it happen.

Ben has a good point, and especially where some of the new Trinity motors are concerned. They use pure copper tabs which are much softer and easier to bend. A decent smash might be quite expensive!

I'd still avoid it!!! ;)

Sorry Peter, mis understood you.

I do agree with the tabs being more prone to braking, as said the new trinity/epic motors have copper brush gear and the tabs are very wappy.

Hi

I ran stock and mod on the same car at the weekend at the 2 day Carpet Wars meet. I swapped the motor over about 20 times in 2 days. Let me tell you I am real glad I had the connectors on both motors!

Cheers

ive run corallys on my motors since the day they came out and probably had a few come off in accidents, but thats not bad in about 12 yrs :)
plus they do add a little bit of heatsinking to the motor endbell/brushes
