View Full Version : Team Wave RB30 Brake issue

Evening all,

I have a Team Wave RB30 with the V1.1 firmware. The brakes are sharp when travelling at speed but the brake force reduces as the car slows down to the point where it has no effect but the car is still moving forward.

Its hard to say what the speed is when this happens but if I give the car a hard push by hand and put the brakes on, the brakes make no difference.

Any ideas anyone?? Is this just a fact with this speedo?

Ta

Chris

It depends on your gearing ratio, at slow speeds on high gearing your motor has to work very hard to bring your car to a complete stop, but when you are racing you never need to make a complete stop, so it's not a problem. Only time I've missed it is when rolling upto a grid oposition and being unable to stop on the line. But I have reverse enabled so it's no issue.

Dez, thanks for the reply, if this is normal then its no worries, you are right, it doesnt cause much of a problem during normal racing. Is this a general thing with brushless speedos?

Hi Chris,

That does not sound normal to me! Pretty much all of the brushless speedos i have used pretty much lock the wheels at any speed! Brushless brakes should be pretty awsome and most of the time you end up turning them down!
Contact keith @much more for some advice!

No worries Chris, my RB30 does the same, so it's not just you, but as Tom says most other brushless systems have brakes like you might expect.
It's as if the anti lock feature of the RB30 that stops you getting reverse until the wheels have stopped is working over time, and keeps knocking the brakes back to avoid a locked wheel, which works great at speed but is a little frustrating at walking pace. I wonder if there is a setting that will cure that?

THanks for the replies, I havent got the speedo in reverse mode yet so it does the same thing both ways. I tried adjusting the brake profile but with no luck. THanks for the advice, perhaps a shout to team wave to see if this could be recitifed in the firmware.

Like has been previously said, this isnt a major issue though and I still find the speedo great!

Hi there, I used the first versions of the RB30 before it was available over here, I would recommend emailing Max Chow at Team Wave.... he is a really helpfull chap and will no doubt clear up any issues you may or may not have :)

OK, I decided to try setting up the speedo again, my left (throttle) stick is set to 70/30. Followed instructions and still same problem.

Changed left stick to 50/50 (little switch moves stick up to half way), set up speedo again and hey presto, brakes work much better and right down to the car being stationary.

Popped my 10.5 though! gutted! (non related!)

Glad you managed to sort it :)

So am I, not sure why it wont work with the trigger set to 70/30, it takes a bit of getting used to but is well worth it as the brakes are more effective even from high speed. Just need to figure out what went wrong with the motor now!

Alot of the new age speed controllers realy dont like it if they dont see enough stick travel when doing initial setup. There just fussy if u ask me :P

Hi Chris, that's interesting, but my ESC was set up with the transmitter at nominal values, i.e. 50/50 throttle and 100% everything, it's only when I turned my brakes down to suit the F1 car that it rolls on at slow speed, passing the grid spot every time, does yours still work OK if you dial your brake end point down after set up, or will only pull to a halt with brakes at 100% ??

I had a very similar issue with my RB50, could never get the low speed brakes to work that well.... I do now wonder if I needed to set the throttle end points to 150%, and then setup the speedo... worth a quick try this evening maybe.
