Shouldn't GT10 be 4 cell or 1s lipo? It says 4 cell or 2s lipo on the website.

At many of our recent club meetings when we have had 6/7 GT10s running, the battery/motor combinations of the cars have differed greatly.Everything from mine 4 cell 10.5 to 1s 10.5 1s 6.5 2s 13.5 2s 10.5.The quickest car at the last October club meeting was 1s 10.5 by a regular 1/12 d finalist.
In order to allow as many people as possible to compete on the day ,we have specifically set the entry as stated.

F1 is an open event
GT10 4cll nimh 1s lipo or 2s lipo (so far on club nights 1s lipo has been by far the quickest option) 10.5 motor limit

Hi Jeff, looking forward to the 2nd Jan already, but any chance you could squeeze another roll, or even half a roll, into the hall and give each lane just a little more room, then push all pits out to a side room please?
The track on Saturday at just 12m wide was just a little too tight and even trying to pass cars that I was two or three secs a lap faster than was near impossible unless they gave straight away as I closed in, leading to tangles instead of great racing. An extra 2 metres shared across the four lanes would give an extra half metere each which would make all the difference.

Wazzup Dez, even I can drive round a 12 metre wide track without touching the sides! :p

As reqested. We have decided to fill the hall with carpet and use the adjacent theatre for pitting (as we do for our 12th national) should give us approx32mtrs x14/15mtrs. Entrys have started to come in ,(we need a good enrty so as to cover the extera cost of the theatre) This will be a cracking event and possibly the only event over the holiday period

Well my entry is in, as are 20 other F1's already. The more the merrier!
I know a few people have F1's all wrapped up for christmas "To Daddy from the kids!" yeah right, I wonder who invented that one
Top Tip, sneak the bodyshell out of the box before you wrap it up, and paint it so all you have to do is build the car and wire it up so you can join in on January 2nd !!

I'm very tempted to come and join the F1 class for this event but coulddn't find any regulations or rules etc.
1. Are there any rules
2. If not, I have both 19t and 27t brushed options, is th ehall big enough for 19t or would 27t be ok?
Dez82
08-12-2009, 10:59 AM
The only rules for F1 so far is to encourage proper F1 cars, not pan cars that look like F1 cars.
As for motors, anything goes, but I am running a 17.5T brushless motor geared as low as it will go, likewise Simon is running a Mardave G2 brushed silvercan geared right down to 24/98 if that gives you an idea, while the guys running hotter motors are literally frying them.
luniemiester
08-12-2009, 11:28 AM
I ran a 19t double on Saturday with 23/98 gearing - motor was about 50 degrees at the end.
If anything i'm going to try a 21t pinion next as it was just starting to pick up at the end of the straight and i needed a little more acceleration.
hashiriya
08-12-2009, 12:38 PM
Thanks for the info guys. I'll probably leave the 27t in and go from there.
I've just got to decide if it's worth the 2hr each way trip.
Will get my entry for gt10 off this weekend too

Hi Dez they can build their cars in the pits as for painting body shells, same as the 12th meeting outside only im afraid.
Dez82
19-12-2009, 06:20 PM
OK That's cool, I'll bring my hot air gun for faster paint drying, and a tyre truer, which I guess will also have to be outside.
Is there a trophy for the fastest driver to turn up with a brand new kit still in the box? ;)
What time do the doors open Jeff please, might need some serious bench time :D

Hi Dez tyre truing will have a dedicated area in the pits, and only that area can be used,(it helps us when we come to clean up afterwards.)
Iwill be putting a notice up on race chat about mid week with final details/instuctions for the event
At the moment i think after speaking with peter and ben doors will open at about 10/30 with racing to comence at 12/30 as we are expecting a few entrys on the day. Keep an eye on the forum from Tuesday evening.

Trying to sort out tables/chairs will let you now soon as poss. The school is officialy closed till new year so we have to work on it with the liesure centre staff.

pace car sounds a great idea, do you have a suitable vehicle mr murphy? lights of flashing lights i hope
Dez82
21-12-2009, 09:46 PM
I know Mark Burges has a pace car, he used it at the NEC Autosports show a few times, great if there isa huge crowd of spectators, but a bit of a time waster if it's just us the drivers there. Looks cool on a video though, gotta admit, but you have to insist all drivers behave themselves on the formation lap, so no one gets broken or a tyre chunked before the race even starts.

Looking forward to the new updated entry list, hopefully we'll have so many GT10 and F1 cars there won't be time to run supporting classes but we shall see.
Just a thought Jeff, is there any scrutineering at this event, i.e. is there a minimum weighty limit for F1, and perhaps a minimum ground clearance rule to protect the carpet?
say 1.1kg and 3mm. just a thought.

Hi Dez hadnt planned to do scrutineering as we had left the rules open to encourage entrys and to keep with the spirit of the meeting
But i will leave it up to you F1 lads to decide what you want in this respect and will support your decisions.
Just had it confirmed today of my work dates over the break, 24th 26th 28th 29th 30th 31st 2nd 4th (back to normal) so no chance of making it even if I booked in late.

OK no worries Jeff, that's cool, Open is the way to go, you only have to look at other series trying to nail down rules to see how it creates adversity and conflict.
Lets get through this one and see how it goes with no rules at all.Do you have a race referee, one thing I have found with open wheelers is that people need a little direction so they don't fight with cars a lap ahead or behind and the meeting stays a lot cleaner and friendly.

Entry list has now been updated, looking like 10 heats, with over 80 entries already!
Good job the doors are now opening earlier at 10:30 with racing starting at 12-ish, I don't think we'll be out of there by 6:30 though guys!
3 heats of F1, 26 cars so far, bet that will rise to over 30 with a few booking in on the day,
2 heats of GT10 Cars, 13 so far again might rise to 20 on the day perhaps.
Fortunatly we have a support heat of Tourers, and another of Mardaves,
Plus 3 heats of 1/12th circuit cars in who obviously enjoyed their National here a couple of weeks ago!!

Yes we are indoors so there are power points, so bring an extension cable, and yes, bring a table, and a chair, could be a long day with 10 heats per round!

Pitting for this event is in the school theatre.
There is ample power for everyone (83 drivers pitted in there during the 12th national with no problems)
Please use the sockets and extensions provided as this will avoid triping the cut outs. This is a tried and tested system that works. (do not take power from anywhere else)
Before anyone can set thier pits up we need to cover the floor to protect it, so if this is in progress when you arrive then please help, as you will then get to set up quicker
A limited number of tables will be availiable (unfortunately with the school shut for the holidays we only have acess to a small number, so bring a small table and chair to be safe.
A table will be provided for tyre tuing with power to it so you can set up your power supply and truer. This is the only area allowed for truing (and you are expected to clean up your own mess when finished)
Please set up tables in rows across the theatre so people will have an acess isle down both sides.
We are hoping to have an electronic heat board situated in the pitting area as we did at the 12th national and a tanoy system to keep you informed during the day as there is only1.5 minutes between each heat and once the computer starts running for the first heat it will not stop (except in emergency) so make shure you now which heat you are in and are prepared. Ithink it is 70 minutes a round so plenty of time for charging and adjustments.
There is a provisional time table on TRRAC.co.uk that we are aiming to work to (mat need to be altered depending on start time (but will be availiable on the day) so you will be able to time your charging to perfection.
Food is being provided by the ladies of the club and is situated between pits and track so no need to go outside and get wet or cold (unless you smoke and then there is one area that has been alocated by the school between two portacabins and provided with a bucket full of sand to put the embers in)
Think that pretty much covers things for now ,see you on the 2nd Jan

Good stuff thanks Jeff, sounds like you have it all covered.
1.5 minutes between heats, man I need to get my head around that!
Is that from "Race Over" tone when the marshals can disapear to the beeps to kick off the next grid?
I'm guessing there are no warm up laps then...
Is there going to be an allocated trackside table where people can drop their cars and transmitters so they don't disapear off into the hall next door to unplug etc, and we get the situation where marshals are re-appearing and running across the track after the next heat has already started, please?

LOL Dez - I'm sure the Racecar team will make sure you've got a top quality mechanic to reduce your panic levels ;)
We've had similar turn arounds for larger outdoor tracks so don't see a major problem. Agree it won't be relaxing, but I'll take an early finish for the drive home over a long turn around between heats :D
Cheers
Mark
PS - I can ref at least one F1 heat if that would help...

Good to have so many experts on the case, should be some good clean racing, looking forward to it already!
Hoping the 1/12th lads will not only scrub the track up so we get more grip than we've ever had before, but also show us how gentlemen drive properly, avoiding contact at all costs and waiting politely if their mistakes costs another driver time or a position.

Well done to the Tamworth Crew for Yesterday, good to be out of the cold!
Cheers to Jeff, Pete, Paul, Ben and everyone associated with the club, thanks to Wim for the AMC shop, and everyone that made it a special event.
Nice to see so many F1 cars come together with so many different ideas, and the high grip level certainly caught most of us out! Ouch!
Man the GT10 were looking good, and at least with a shell on they didn't get tangled up so much as the open wheeled F1 cars on what is a 1/12th circuit, just a little too narrow in places for the F1's to make it a clean race.

Yep, thanks to all the guys at Tamworth. Shame about the little delay, but hey, things happen. :)
it was great to see the F1's back again.
I had a reasonable day, Q6 and running 2nd in the A final for a while before I got punted into the barrier lapping another car, which ended up stripping the splines on the servo saver. Then the car wouldn't centre up properly or turn left...and at those speeds, it wasn't good to go down the straight with a car that didn't go straight. So I pulled it off before I ruined someone elses race or hurt someone.
But MAN!!! The grip roll was a killer!!! lol
At least I won concours! :)
Sorry to the guy with the Williams replica, that was mint! But I've had that happen to me MANY times in the past, producing an absolutely beautiful shell, only to beat by someone that did a one colour job and put some stickers on it....at least mine was 3 colours with stickers. :p
You have to remember with concours, its wht the judge likes, not necesarily how good the paint job is.

I was expecting to suffer in GT10 running large foams, 60mm f / 61mm r, 4mm ride height but never found any
I ran no addy on the front with the tyre wall superglued and full addy on the rears. Took 1 to 2 laps for the front's to come in but it wasn't serious understeer.
Did see plenty of GT10 tip over though :D

Running CA around the outside wall of the front tyres seems like a crazy solution but I've seen lots doing just that, and it works.
I'd rather run slightly harder tyres and limit steering lock, so that if I need more steering I can dial it back in.
On my F109 I ran some Gecko foams to test them, 30 shore Mardave doughnuts front, 27 shore 1/12th dougnuts rear and it was stable all weekend with no additives at all.

Thanks to Ben, Pete, Jeff and the Tamworth crew for getting the meeting together. The wide range of classes worked surprisingly well together, and were a great way to get back into racing after the festive layoff.
As Dez mentioned the GT10s were great to drive around what was the Tamworth 12th National circuit. Passing took careful planning, and the grip levels were the highest I've seen racing GT10s.
I'll post my 10R5 set up when I'm next back home. It was an interesting mix of US high grip setups from Vegas and the US team drivers, plus some lessons we've learned racing the 12R5 in the UK. Given the gear ratio and set up was an educated guess, it all worked very well from round 1 and the only change needed was additive timings.
I didn't have to resort to CA glue on the outside of the front tyres. The Jaco Lilac tyres gave great grip and have very little wear, so I could afford to run them pretty small. Still not as small as we did in Vegas though
We worked out after Round 3 that rather than grip roll, my car was sliding over raised tape then biting when the tyres got back onto grip and carpet. Only happened on one corner and like a bike racing high side. Impressive
All in all I felt I didn't get the best out of the car in qualifying, but was pleased with 2nd in the final.
Having watched the F1 heats I saw more cars suffer from increase grip levels and rolling over. What we'd found in other classes is with lots of additive in the carpet tyres will pick up grip as you run around. So even a foam without additive at the start will get more grip and additive. CA glue is one of a number set up changes to cope, or adopt a very careful driving style.
Cheers,
Mark

I only used the BRS spec tyre for the event, 2 fronts / rears, changed for each run. Also have Jaco spec but they didn't leave the pit box.
