Been having fun doing some F1 reviews for RRCi and it brought back a lot of memories, so I dug out this old video, Race Car series at Ashby, mid 1990's, great fun with 27T motors and 1400mAh NiCd battery packs. Still wouldn't need more than that today!

what a cracking race but it's the commentary that makes it special, Kris Kenndedy in full flow, makes me laugh so much I nearly crash!
I'll have to do a similar video of Bedworth F1's soon, perhaps on a dry day though, don't want water in my video camera!

very nice, boy do i miss that track ( stafford ), i forgot how good it was even in the first corner the tarmac had come up a bit, and it was on the racing line, oh well at least we still have a track that is still the same layout apart from the last 3 corners a little bit different.
very nice well done, i'll see if JR can but it on the stafford's website

Cheers John, glad you liked it, I also have a video of John R going backwards off the B final Grid from Pole Position, oh the carnage, after Andrew wired his motor in backwards in a hurry, we didn't do warm up laps back then 'cos we'd dump, oh how things have changed!

I told John about the video I have of his crashing his way backwards through the pack, don't think he'd laugh if it appeared on You Tube, but then again it was a long time ago, do you think I dare post it up?

My god, those were the days!!! Ashby was a great track with its "parabolica" and "alpine drop" and Stafford was also a great track, as been said KKJ was great on the mike.

i dont' think john would mind it was a very long time ago and it just might teach drivers what would happen when you do a rush job.:D

Dez, that ashby vid is awsome!!. I miss ashby soooo much, espeially with an F1, itsalmost as if it was made for those cars.
Good to see my car on there too. mine was the black car, passingyou twice in the first couple of laps! :p Great racing......wish I had anoher F1 to race.......;)
Think it may have even been me that turned back roud to give you a push at the end....how helpful of me. :)
We knew how to have fun on the rostrum back then.
Stafford was a fantasic little track, so good when you got it right.
If you do any multiple F1 running, you'll have to let me know so I can come and play. :)

Cheers guys, glad you liked it abnd it brought back a few memories, and proved 2WD could be fun inexpensive racing.
I dug my old F102 and F103 '92-'96 F1 championship winning cars out of the attic, might have to put them back together as runners too!
You can drive one of them if you like Terry - I'll let you, if you put tyres on it for me!

Anyone know the name of this Track, it was down south, Tamiya facitility caleld TMRC or something along those lines, Tamiya Model Racing Circuit, sadly destroyed when a fire engine called to extinguish the wooden race control building (or something like that as I remember) parked on the tarmac track instead of the grass track that was the other side of the rostrum and in the process of putting out the fire totally wrecked the tarmac track and it never returned sadly.
TEMAC I think it was. Never went there, just remember the funny name.
Seems like most of the old circuits have gone, but fortunately some good new ones have come along so on-road is still alive and well.

TEMAC, Basildon in Essex.
I remember the bumps. Raced an F1 in an "indy" oval race, and saw nothing but air under the car on the back straight. Then caught the start of the pit straight....saw the car 6 feet plus in the air...landed and carried on as if nothing had happened.

Mmm...the old Stafford track. Loved it. Deceptively simple layout, and with the close together corners and steep curbs needed real precision for a good lap time.
My first meeting there was an F1 meeting. Pitted next to a nice and friendly F1 racer with Club Pacific stickers on his car. The one and only Kris Kennedy (old school commentary on the video btw).
Won rounds of Eurocup and BTCC there too. Happy days

I printed those Club Pacific stickers! lol
Stafford track was ace, had more character than the new one. I like the fact that if you make a mistake on the old style tracks, you went/go onto the grass. Not just carried on with a bit of a spin.
Had my one and only TQ there in the BRCA F1 winter series.
TEMAC, possibly the bumpiest track in the UK when it was around. Sure I was in that vid somewhere. Think I quali'd 7th ended up with a chunked tyre and just kept spinning at right handers.
My F109 appeared yesterday, but I can't open it or even look at the box until Xmas day. :(

Wow that video of Ashby is amazing never realised it looked so good back then, its such a shame its gone now, really miss the days i spent down there from 2001 till 2007, many a happy hour testing racing and just generally having loads of fun just being there, cheers for posting this much appreciated!!

Glad it's bringing back memories for you guys.
Stafford was heck of a track, tighter than most and certainly a challenge, you had to be fast yet accurate to make a good lap.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2u1EPHiLg0o
Ashby was a little bumpy but faster with a few uphill and downhill sections plus that big banked sweeper which made it unique.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-paRPelbO4E
The TEMAC vid certainly does have Terry A, and I think Mark C on the rostrum, cos I can hear them calling for marshals :D
You can hear how bumpy it is in the Video, tshh, tshh, tsh, tshhh, tsh tshhh, from the chassis as it skips along.

Oi!! Cheeky gitt!! lol
....to be honest, I think I am shouting for marshals in that vid.
Yeah, they were all great tracks, Ashby was awesome through the winter, trying to get a 2wd F1 round the banking in the frost certainly tested any drivers skill!!.......4wd Touring cars!! you don't know wha control mean until you tried F1's in the frost! lol

in the ashby vid, is that don or ian whit in that, it looks like they're colour scheme, and I think one of them used to run an f1 at stafford
telboy
07-11-2009, 11:18 PM
Ian, Don always use to pit for him.
Back then, I think it was generally me, Dez and Ian always fighting for the championship....and Mark Christopher when he sprung on the F1 scene.
Would be cool to see some championship results from the old days.

Kris Kennedy said he'll get his F1's out again too!!!
It'd be a good reunion.:)
What is good about this F1 come back, is that people are digging out their old cars!! How budget is that!! Low cost racing at its best!!
i mite come for a play too, keep hinting at the f109 kit for xmas though the missus seems to be ignoring me,, though have gt10 to play with.
a reunion rrci series tour sounds good
