I know i am a bit late BUT just got an SPX is there a rule set in stone as to how many pinions you need to go different to a standard LRP or Nosram Matrix ISTC ESC
Running 13.5 i run at 4.2 on a Matrix ISTC Any suggestions on how much higher i need to go to get the most out of my new SPX ??????????????
Tried it today up and down the road and it didn't seem to be hitting the second power band so i presume i was well off !!!!!! i went 4 pinions lower when i tried it
Thanks in Advance :D

Well i found that the gearing does take a bit of getting used to. As a rough idea I was running indoors with an LRP Sphere with a corally 13.5 and was geared at around 5.4.
Am now running an SPX with a GM 13.5 (with a little bit of timing advance) and am geared at around 9.1 and it just flys!
I know it seem radically different but it just works!
Another example I was running at Bedworth over the summer and a local quick guy who was running 13.5 was geared at 4.5ish. I was running at 6.1 and lost nothing down the straight but was very punchy in the infield!
So gather from that what you will, but I would make sure you undergear rather than overgear it.

Ummmm That should not realy be possable as thats the same standard ratio as we all run on the old style Matrix ESC ............... Your Nosram Spec is not doing what its been designed to do , At that ratio its giving you no advantage over the old esc you had in the car befor ;) ......
I am thinking of closer to 7.0 to start having done some resesarch , I could be wrong :eek:
Hi Trev,if i'd have been at coastal i'd have started around 7.5 with 10.5.;)
If I remember rightly I was geared around 6.9 at Ipswich and the car was by no means slow! If i could just learn to drive the thing I'd be laughing :D
There seems to be some confusion regarding gearing for the SPX (well I'm confused anyway!)
I'm currently using a Novak GTB and the sweet spot on gearing with my Novak Ballistic 13.5 seems to be around 4.6 (med carpet track). I now have an SPX and I need some advice for a gearing starting point (same motor) using the esc profile 7 or 8, can anyone help?
Cheers

Hi Jez,
I was running 5.4 last time (using the same motor/speedo combo). This is on profile 8. Batteries were Intellect 5000 30Cs.
The car was weighing in at 1,358g and I did not use a motor fan.
It was pretty quick ;)

Hi Tim,
Pretty quick? It was devastating
Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a go. I'm using Demon 35C Lipo's and my car is an almost identical weight to yours.
Have you advanced your motor at all? Mine is still set to factory timing.
Cheers

The motor had about 1mm of advance from the neutral position.
