Hi, I have run my new-ish SD for 3 weeks now (three race meetings). The rear diff has gone *graveley*, as they normally do, however I have rebuilt it 3 times today and am not having any luck with sorting the problem out. I used Losi red grease on the bearings between the diff screw and the outdrive, I the manual it says to use black. The Losi and Yokomo systems are very similar so I dont think this would be an issue. Any help please? Jonathan

If all the parts were fully clean before you rebuilt, it'll be a case of new balls and plates to solve the "graveliness".

Ive just WD 40'd everything, got the new toothbrush out and given everything a good clean, I'm gonna have one more go before buying anything new, Thanks for the advice, I probably will end up buying new bits. Jonathan

Been running my sd for months now and the diffs are sweet as a nut as smooth as silk no problems here try using the origanal grease ect stick with Yoko stuff works well for me....................
if they have been over tightened then you will have to buy the nex bits what are the plates like ?

Just get new plates and balls, and a new thrust bearing too, and rebuild with new grease.
One of mine was always like that. Problem solved with new balls and plates.

get 800 grade sandpaper and sand both the diff and thrust bearing plates. My 8 month old diffs seems brand new since I've done that.

Then maybe even polish em' to get a smooth finish. ;)

never polish diff plates ! You'll experience diff slipping ! Just use sandpaper and rebuild it. It'll feel gritty at first, but after the first run you'll feel it's like brand new.
However if you've runned it with a loose diff, your balls might not be round anymore but square...

That doesn't make sense cobra, the plates come polished from the factory.
It's the pressure on the plates that makes the diff grip, not the friction on the plate surface.
Obviously, you should thoroughly clean any polishing compound from the plates before use.

We've been using this tip on off road for ages, and never polished them. It provides more grip, you can actually loosen your diff more without slip, and it also keeps the grease better.

I use Losi steel balls, not carbide, as the plates wear too fast on carbide
Yokomo balls not as good as Losi ones .... hurts to say that!!!!

I slapped plenty of 'Black Gold' in the diff and now it is as smooth as when I first re-built it. ran it saturday night and it was fine for the whole meeting, thanks for your help. Might have to knick the balls out of my xxx-s next time I rebuild the diffs. Jonathan
