Hi I have just bought a new Hyper 7 pbs rtr with starter box etc but i just carnt get it to start!!! Ah!! so if any 1 can help that would be cool.
To start with radio is working fine so no probs there. The problem is when i put it on the starter box it carnt seem to turn the fly wheel. At first i that it was my 12v bat so i canged that no joy :'( you see the starter box whell will tun i put the car on there and nothing the it will just not turn the fly wheel. i have had a look to chq that the flywheel is lined up and it is. Also i can turn the flywheel by hand but it will only go so far and then nothing.
so if any 1 can help that would be fantastic as i am sure you can understand my disipointment.
thanks

its only a low powered sarter box so best bet is to loosen plug to loose some compression! once run in ti will be fine!
just make sure its not flooded to, plug out and either car upside down and turn engine over or plug out and turn engine over on box (put cloth over top of head!!

Recently ran in a PBS so might be able to help. Yes they are very tight. First thing is to get some fuel into it, this may sound a bit strange but the fuel lubricates the bore, so take the glow plug out and with the piston at the bottom of the stroke tip a small amount of fuel in through the plug hole, now turn the motor over by hand, if its still tight at the top of the stroke use a screwdriver on the flywheel to lever it over TDC. do this a couple or three times, then put the plug back in loosely and try turning it over on the starter box, it should turn over, another suggestion before you put it on the starter box is to disconnect the pressure pipe from the exhaust and blow down it to pressurise the tank and force sum fuel up to the carb, when you can see fuel all the way to the carb, reconnect the pipe and then try turning it over. It should turn over. Stick the glow stick on and see if it will fire (it should do), then quickly tighten up the glow plug or you'll have fuel everywhere. Try that. If it still won't have it let me know.

What type of 12v battery are you using? Another thing is that you maybe just pushing the car down to hard onto the rub wheel. If all else fails take it back to the shop where you bought it and ask them to get it started.

Is the engine hydro "LOCKING" if not and you can turn it over manually take out the glow plug and try to get the box to turn it over without glow plug.
Second we have had to grind the chassis wider so the wheel does not catch the chassis when being pushed down. A major problem with some cars and some boxes is the car can be pushed down too far and then fouls the chassis. We placed a couple of nuts to prevent the movable lid from going down too low as the switch activates the wheel BUT any further pressure would then cause the chassis to bind.
Steve Haynes with all his experience had problems the other day and he had to move the flywheel back each time using a screwdriver (it was not his engine but a brand new one a mate was running in!) but it showed me how hard at times they can be too start when they are new. We can only afford second hand engines so we have not had that problem yet :)

hi,
just another suggestion Frank,
my son & i also experienced similar problems starting his PBS Hyper 7 engine, i traced it to the 12v supply cable that we used to connect to the terminals.
We were using a 12v car battery, and a piece of 240volt extension cable, this got hot due to the starter motor needing more Amps (cable too thin & too long!), it kept stalling the rubber starter wheel.
I then fitted some thicker wire (2.5 mm / 14awg), this cured the problem and now its great fun to see my son as happy as Arsene :) Wenger, and not grumpy like Alex :( Ferguson!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a two week old Hyper 7. It was also impossible to turn even without glow plug. After phoning CML I was told it is quite common for these engines to be stuck at TDC when new and very tight. However I used a hairdryer to heat up the block and this helped to free it, then leaving it off TDC until i was ready to fire it up, as suggested earlier, with glow plug undone 1/2 to 1 turn, tightening fully once started. After 1st tankfull on tickover it was much easier to turn. now almost run in starts immedietely using 'loose' plug.
Hope this helps.
PS be careful what else you may be heating with hairdryer.
Regards
Jason

I'm having the same problem with my PBS! >:(
Is this a sign of a quality problem?
Also on mine (second hand but nor run in, probably because they couldn't start it) the aluminium flywheel has a polished spot where it locks up, so now will not even turn over on the starter box with the plug out! >:( >:(
But I can turn it over by hand! ???
Didn't get a manual either, so is there anywhere I can download one?

Dom take flywheel off and reposition it away from tight spot, its on a Collete
the starter box is not the most powerful available but once run it you will have no probs, just make sure the starter wheel is turning fast before the flywheel hits it, its takes time and patience to run em in thats all!
manual is there one on CML site?

The loose glowplug method is the best, with a drop of fuel put in through the plug hole first just to lubricate the bore slightly. We have a well run in PBS but can still be a bit of a cow sometimes. But having said that, ran the car in anger for the first time on Sunday and we were well chuffed, made some supposedly superior cars look very second rate. Keep persevering Doom it will get better ;)

Thanks Mark, I was hoping I would be able to move the flywheel.
Can I assume then, that even when run in I will need to loosen off the plug before starting?

There isn't a manual on the CML site, only some engine info, which I already have. :(

Doom, you may have to loosen the plug, depends on what mood the motors in ;). As I said it can sometimes be a bit of a cow even after running in.

Seriously try heating block with hairdryer! as already said, once run it will be much easier to turn over, however lossening the plug 1/2 turn makes it a doddle.
Could try this site sells to the public so is there fore 1/ a shop 2/ a shop outside the UK, both brake the rules for manual?
My Hyper 7 has just been run in and is now a real flyer, only once, when it was very cold day, did it take a while to fire up.
Hairdryer worked for me!!!
