I'm looking at buying the IRS carbon chassis for my TC3 (just the chassis, not the full conversion). Has anyone done this, if there is, what do you think about it and does it improve the handling at all?

if your only buying the chassis i dont think you will be able to get it running, you will need the motor mounting machined metal piece, and you would need something to screw the side support into, so it is supported :-

I dont know if ive read the post right but thats what it leads me to believe.

You get all the part's you need to replace the tub in the 'chassis only' IRS kit (£120 is the new price from most places I think).
It's lighter than the std chassis and is about as stiff without the extra side braces, with them it's a lot stiffer.
If you want to get hold of one it's just a PM away ;)

I haven't tried the IRS chassis but my understanding is that the BMI and Warspeed ones are much better. I have a BMI one and its ace, cells are closer to the shaft and its a lot stiffer than the tub chassis

Do these chassis make big differences to the handling of the car?

Another question.....would the conversion to NTC3 steering be simple with this chassis?

just a matter of the correct positioning, drillling and countersinking.
heres a link, involves the tub but the theory is the same.

The Warpspeed does make the chassis different. It has eliminated the torque steer by repositioning the motor/battery. I have also had to soften the set up by 7-10 lbs all round running on carpet/rubber.

Cant answer for BMI or IRS.

The IRS150 Chassis conversion is the item you are looking for, it includes all the posts and the motor mount.
I run one and it works just fine.

I wouldnt recomend the irs conversion as it seems to be rather poor. Wheras the BMI is probabily the best. It was made by the co designer of the warpspeed an has all the warpspeed problems ironed out.
Feel free to pm me for info.

Ok then, lets make a debate on which conversion is best for the TC3 and why? I'm sort of drifting towards the IRS at the moment, what do you think??

Well, IRS is distributed by CML (the Associated importer/distributor). IRS are also suppliers to Associated. I have yet to see any of the other conversions running, so will refrain from comment.

When I did my conversion, I took all the running gear off my TC-3 and dropped it straight onto the IRS without any problems. I ran it the whole of last year, along with Graham Creasey, and will be running it again this year.

At the end of the day no matter which conversion you go for, you will still be running the TC-3 drivetrain, suspension and geometry.

With the Bmi chassis you can choose wich steering rack you want to put in, it has holes for both. It looks vey nice too, you can get it in red, black or blue carbon.
Its cheaper than the IRS aswell, not sure about the price on the warpspeed tho...

The Warpspeed is also supplied pre-drilled for both steering racks. Its also available in coloured carbon. Priced at around £165. Not sure how much the BMI kit is to compare.

BMI kit is $110 or $120 depending on colour + postage from the US.

Mine worked out at £80 including some nice anodised blue bits ;D

Yea the bmi is definately the best (imho) as its cheap and better designed than the warpspeed. Not saying the warpspeed isnt awesome but im wondering y the co desinger of the warpspeed went an designed his own chassis moving the batts back to the normal side? seems a bit strange to me. if theres nothing wrong with the warpspeed.

Some of the people at my local track tried to get it but they have been waiting for a long time . . . maybe its just them.
