Just a query really about front belts lenths between different chassis.

On friday night my front belt snapped on the cyclone TC, now this is a 170teeth. as I didnt have a spare my mate lent me an xray belt which is also 170teeth. now we both assumed (I know you shouldnt assume anything) that they would be the same lenth and I also asked someone else ( a factory driver) before I put it in and he also though beeing the same amount of teeth they would be the same length. However when I put it in with all the cams and tentioners at the slackest the belt was a very very tighter. It managed to get me through the night, but it will soon come out as its under to much tention. no slack at all.

So my question is, would any of you assume that they would have been the same length or not?

I would have though the pitch and size of teeth would be vastly different, but it apears they are.

Andrew.

Andrew, there are at least 2 different tooth profiles commonly used for belts, however I suspect is more related to the pulley dimensions rather than the belt itself.

I believe the pitch between teeth is typically 3mm, at least it is on the Schumacher's and Xray's.

Not sure about the Cyclone though.

hi Andrew,
the cyclone uses 3mm pitch belts the same as just about all modern competitive touring cars.so as long as the belt is the same length ie 170 tooth it should fit just fine.a easy way to check is to see if the size in mm is printed on the belt in your case it needs to be 510mm. 510 divided by 3mm pitch = 170 teeth.:p hope this helps.

Agreed...
