Hello people,
I used to race Nitro a year or so ago (Mugen MTX-2) but have been away for a while. Thinking of starting again this year, does anybody have any views or experience with the R12? I know it won the Nationals but that doesn't necessarily tell the whole story.
Is it reliable? is it strong? What's the handling like?
It looks a little like the early nitro cars from the likes of Kyosho and Tamiya where they have been slung together from bits from existing models.
I fancy something a little different from the normal Mugen, serpent TC3 cars but if the R12 Team is just a stop-gap model I may have to run my lovely Tamiya this year.
Thanks for your views and sorry for the long text.
Mark.

the r12 is a quick car but did have a tendency to break easy.
if you fancy something different look the team magic G4 and the new Hobao GP4, both in the car link area!
i will have a full blown works mtx3 for sale soon with loads of options fitted and spares!
allot of drivers did sat the R12 was tail happy and this i think was rectified by diff rear geometry.
end of the day all the cars are competitive and some have good points some have bad!
hand on heart im not sure how competitive a Tamiya will be!! which class are you looking at? (look to Left under my name)

Hi mark,
Thanks for the reply. I will be racing in the rubber class once I sort out what to use. If I do have a go with the Tamiya I'll stick with the RB X12 rear exhaust that's in at the moment.
If I buy something different, which engine is 'in' at the moment, I think the regs on engine specs have changed since a last raced my MTX-2.
Also what's new (if anything) in the rules?
Thanks.
Mark.

I guess you have a TG10, what upgrades do you have for it? I have a TG10 and wondered what it be like a nationals, considering its got a standard engine, but loads of suspension mods, and a 2sp.

Thanks for that Mark.
Jon,
Good to hear from you again. I took a year and a bit out of racing to build a kit car (still building it!) but I'm going mad and really to want to do some racing this year. Feel a bit guilty about not turning up for race meetings and I've heard that things have changed at Snetty. Perhaps you could email me what the score is with the track and when you and Tris will be there and we'll work something out.
Garry,
I've got a TG10R which was Tamiya's attempt at a 'proper' 200mm nitro racer. I've put a rear exhaust RB in it and a TC3 exhaust and some alloy parts from japan but that's about it. The R comes with a very high spec as standard and I'm convinced it is quick enough to compete but it does look a little fragile and the spares have to come from abroad.
if you want to race your Tamiya then do it, what have you got to lose. you'll need to change the engine though.
Mark.
