Hi there,
Has anyone tried the IRS alluminium diff halves? Well i'm having a few problems. I understand that the diff has to be built differently to what it normally does because there is nowhere for the nut to sit inside the outdrive. But the instructions seem unclear and I cant get it to go together :-
Any help please
Cheers

As it says in the destructions you need the associated t-nut, which slots in the outdrive slots, and gives the screw, something to, um, screw into.

Does the t-nut look like the diff bolt cover?

Similar, but a bit longer and it has a thread in it!

You could do with the aluminium diff assmbly,
Different drive rings, Bearings instead of bushings and the Nut you need!

are you using the pincushions?

No, I couldnt be bothered to knock out the original pin, because if I tried to I would probably snap the whole driveshaft in half ;D ;D
I just left it how it was

I agree - get the pin cushions or you will mash up your shiny new outdrives - I've seen it happen...

Im now puting my irs diff back in an ive forgotten how it goes together :( can any1 help me? thnx Phil C.
Phil,
You need to get hold of the T nut adapter used in the original tc3 diffs.
The spring goes in the same side as the T nut. The thrust race goes on the other side next to the screw head.
Otherwise same as the plastic outdrives.

I seem to be having a few problems with the diff. I hav installed it and with the shim it will not fit nicely into the diff cases. Its a tight fit and it seems to be pinching the bearings. Without the shim it fits nicely but the meshing between bevel gears is way too tight. Can any1 help?
Cheers Phil C.

If you meant without the shim the mesh is too LOOSE, i can help you, but if you meant what you said, i havent got the foggiest.

With the shim the diff doesnt fit in the diff cases and without the shim it does but the messhing is way too tight.

Hi friends. Greetings from Malta.
PIN CUSHIONS>
Those of you running IRS diffs with pin cushions have probably noticed how fiddly they are, and how the pins keep creeping out.
Solution: When you next replace driveshafts buy Corally Assassin drive shafts with their own Corally cushions. The only alteration you will need is to widen the slots on the alloy diff halves very slightly with a small file, so that the new Corally cushions / blades slide nicely.
An easy mod and worth the effort. And the Corally drive shafts are cheaper than AE.

nice tip john. ;)
Pressume the driveshafts themselves are the same length. or are they a little different? How about the fit onto the axles?
time to get out the minature file set ;D
Thanks
Ross
Aren't the corally axles metric?

believe so yes, pressume you use the original imperial axles with the corally driveshafts/dogdone.

If you use Corally drive shafts with Corally blades they will fitr straight on - just the small bit of filing of the diff outputs as explained earlier.
The shafts are the same length. Son Josh has run them on his mod TC3 with 8 turn motors for the last 6 months with no trouble.
Better than the pin cushions any day.
