Considering a move to 1/12th racing, have a quick question regarding photos of the 1/12th cars that I see in the mags.....Understand that these cars operate with a 4 cell setup but what is used to secure the cells in place for racing ? It looks like a white tape of some sort ?

Help

Thanks

The tape you see is glass fibre reinforced tape. It costs about £3-50 a roll, and you can get it from most hobby shops. :)

The corally cars have battery retainers (like touring cars), so no tape is required. :)

If you are currently doing touring cars, you may want to try 6 cell stock first, instead of 4 cell modified, because you can use your motor and cells from your touring car. That way, if you decide you don't like it (very unlikely!), then you won't have wasted loads of money on new cells and motors! ;)

To add to Mark's point about running stock....

The BRCA at national level (and therefore at club level as well) runs both 4cell modified and 6cell stock in the same race and in the same class.

The view is that the additional overhead of carrying 2 additional cells is compensated for by having more power available, which is then restricted by using a stock motor.

Don't think that running a stock is "slower" than a mod... it's just different as the cornering isn't as quick due to the additional weight.

Imagine how fast your TC would be if it weighed half as much as it does now.... ;D

... and had twice the level of grip!! Ooooh, you are gonna love 1/12th - totally addictive.

Competely agree with Mark - try 6-cell stock first as this will soon tell you whether 1/12th is for you, and you won't have to buy anything special - except a smaller servo maybe.

i know what you mean about 1:12. I had my first blast with my car last week. Granted it had rubbishy old tyres on tarmac in a car park but it was fantastic to drive and looked great . I put my tourer up for sale the next day!! I cant wait to have a proper blat on a race track. Incidentally I had to use a 19x3 in it with 6 cells as I ain't got a stock motor at the mo. The acceleration had to be seen to be believed
