Has anyone seen the new xxx-4 towers that lower the shocks for a lower center of gravity.
These new towers are CNC routed from extra thick mil spec fiberglass for additional flex and shock absorbing.
No more broken towers? :)

Dom you got any info mate? ???

Jukka offered us some in Austria but as we were running the XX4 instead we declined the offer. We can break chassis without beefed up towers although we did go through 4 at the juniors towers that is.

The towers looked very nice but I really can't help thinking that Losi should have done more testing with more mediocre drivers to find the faults.........i am free in the week <grin>

They cant even use the old " we have grass tracks over here" because it showed up badly when jukka was beaten by a XX4 with shocks in different holes and a year old set up and tricky did well to stick in the A main. Honigals steed seemed the best I saw and even he found it very hard in the bumps.

the new towers are ace, I didnt have time to fit them at Bury.

Ellis managed to get them on this car for the last part of the day and his car was ace with them.

from what I understand it is not to lower the CoG but more to allow you to get more droop and allow you to have more ride high, then run the car softer, it may not be such a skateboard then.

From Team Losi (http://www.teamlosi.com/newprod/2003prods/xxx4_towers.htm)
Due to the revised shock location limiters and/or different shock shafts are necessary for the shocks as noted in the included instructions.

Have you seen/got the instructions Chris?

Any chance you could post them in here?

I think the whole idea of the shock tower are to run the same droop and ride height, so you would either have to run the same shock shafts, but limited on the inside of the shock, or to run horter shafts, say intermediate instead of long at the rear, and short instead of intermediate at the front,

For the UK, with our tracks, it does give you the chance to run more dropp so the wheel drops into the hole instead of the car, but watch those diff outdrives for wear with the extra droop.

I dont know anything concrete but what we were doing (well I wasn't, because I didnt have time to put them on) was to run the shorter 0.9' shafts on the rear (not sure how much limiters inside, not many though) this allows the piston to stay in the oil more instead of poping out the top.

for the front, I belive the same shafts but just adjust the limiters accordingly (to get the 'right' amount of droop)

the extra droop may cause problems with the driveshafts being too far out of the diff though, so just check YOU are happy with how they are, I dont want responsibility for broken outdrives :o

Chris can us none team drivers get them yet mate?
wouldnt mind tryin them.
The xxx4 gets another chance at the f2's this weekend to change my mind about getin rid of it, I like runin both cars from one manufacturer and I like the 2wd.

I think you should stay with it Mat, I would imagine Paul Worsley is going to the F2's he may have some, I would let you have mine but my Dad had to go abroad with work and its too far for me to go to bring them for you myself.

speak to Paul, if he has some spare I am sure he will let you have them

what do you think of the sliper on your 2wd is it much better?

I have access to a CNC router, I have access to 2.4mm thick fibreglass (Type is FR4), just need to see one to make lots ;)

2.4mm is too thin, not stiff of strong enough.
The Losi towers are 4mm thick.

4 mm thick - I can get 3.2mm easily enough, but 4mm might be an issue :(

I ran them on my car at Bury and was right on the pace. Hard to say without back to back tests, but they certainly didn't hurt.

rich C,

I have just ordered the new shock towers but need a little help ready for sunday.

What set up changes did you change on the car at Bury with the new shocks from standard kit settings?

I have the 1" shock shafts, what springs, oil etc etc did you use ( i am racing at a similar track to Bury this weekend) I take it the shocks are mounted on the rear of the tower?

Thanks for your help

Chris

though i have not run it, what I did to my car to make it 'feel and look' right was to put the 0.9 shock shafts in the back with no limiters (please check your drive shafts in the cups and that you are happy with them)

an extra 1mm or so in the front (again check the shafts in the drive cups)

shocks on the rear of the tower (you will notice even the XXX4 G+ kit has this now.

hope that helps with changes you need to do with the new towers.

another thing to check is that your shocks move freely on the top mount, I noticed on mine that they are at more of an angle with the new towers so they may need spacing out accordingly
