Has anyone any experience of a good set up for a polished wooden floor (school hall)?
There are two of us at LRCC running new xxx4g's and so far it's looking like yellow Schumaker full spikes, no rear roll bar, front tyres on rims to not the full width (inner edge one step out). One way front diff (standard losi), 11 double motor 18/19 pinion.
Anyone any further thoughts?

Hi Dave, first of all, could you have your full name shown somewhere in your profile as per rule5
To answer your question, I woud run the car soft. with regard to tires, its a hard one to call, but I would go with someone that has a small spike and lots of them. maybe the g+ kit tires would be quite good.
Are there any 'off-road features' in the track like jumps and stuff?
running a diff in the front will help you slow the car down really fast (as you will have all 4 wheels braking) but will loose you some on power steering.
do you have any 'problems' with the car as in, too much steering? not enough rear? not enough turn in? if you give us an idea of what yo u want it to do, and what you are currently using as the setup we can give you a few ideas on what to change.
PS - have a look through the FAQ here, its quite useful
hope that helps

Oops! sorry about the missing name.
I do hope you were just joking about using the kit tyres.
They went in the bin very quickly.
As for the yellow Schumacker tyres they do work very well for most off road cars on our floor. So have become the club standard fitment.
(I previously ran various Preds for ten years on these no problem)
As yet it is still early days (only two meetings) so will try to pin down some more accurate questions shortly.
Was kind of hoping someone else had run a little longer on this type of surface
and could help us towards the optimum a little quicker.
One of the biggest problems is trying to get the car into a forgiving mode with dust just off the racing line grip can suddenly dissapear for half a lap.
Generally we don't have any jumps but very tight corners and hairpins with a track width of 1 mtr max so no room for errors!

OK, if your club has fallen on a 'standard' tire then I would stick with that.
I have never really ran my car on this surface but I do really like low grip surfaces in general.
explain the problem again for me, forgiving on power or off power?
PS - thanks for amending the name! ;D

At a guess, on Polished floor, he wants a car that turns in sharp, comes out tight but doesn't fishtale under acceleration..... not much huh ;D;D

back in the day of 4wd modon polished wood.. we used to run schu blue full spikes, cut down... they were awesome, but no longer available.. :(
only thing you really need in a 4wd is a 1 way.. and LOTS of power..we used to run the cars actually quite stiff to make them consistent, so you could slide and carry speed that way.. depends how slippery your slippery floor is... ours was like glass..... 8)

I havent done wood racing for a while but I still remeber a bit.
Inserts are a really big deal, softer for more grip typically. Usually it helps to run the car with lots of pack and light oil. Camber links and ackermann have a massive effect on wood too, bear this in mind if you find yourself resorting to strange set ups to gain or lose steering.
Lots of power too, I used to run a fast 10 turn everywhere, its the power that pulls the car into the turn when sliding, so more the better!
