The price is what you pay for it in the shops, I don't know of ANYWHERE in the UK specifically selling the goods at a lot less than anyone else.

Well, if you know the shops with high markup, then go to a shop that doesn't. Personally I use RC Car suppliers who know what they and I are talking about. Rather pay £15 more for a kit when I can phone them and ask a question and get a decent answer, not, look in the manual mate.
