???

Ran on carpet for the first time today.....can you lads give me a general 'rule of thumb' setup for the xxx-s on carpet?

And cells front or back?? My back end was sliding round a lot on full lock, no roll bars by the way :P

Cheers, ;D

OK heres my general carpet set up - its not perfect, but works for me

Front:
Springs: White
Oil: 50wt
Pistons: Red
Shocks in hole 3
Long wheelbase
Camber link in hole 2
4 deg caster blocks
2F front block with low roll centre
Fast 40 (foam) tyres or TRC Plaids

Rear:
Springs: Purple
Oil: 50wt
Pistons: Red
Shocks in hole 4
Middle wheelbase
Camber link: hole 5
0 deg Offset blocks
0R rear block with low roll centre
Fast 35 (foam) tyres or TRC Purples

Diffs front and rear.
Cells Forward (i never run them at back)
Losi Alfa shell

On another thread you can find a setup from Chris for an indoor carpet track ... and that'll probably be better

Thanks for your setup Oli,

my setup is for using Rubber T27 tires, Oli's appears to be for foams, mine is very much close to the kit g+ setup woth a few changes.

what tires do you run Dan?

Tried worn yellow mini pins which worked quite well, sorex 24r's just slid and am going to buy some carpet dragons....any recommended inserts? And what width are dragons? ;D

Schumacher foam inserts are good on the dragons, some people run inch up rims, I got normal diameter rims, 26mm wide

Thanks for all your advice lads :D

I have heard that foams are great on carpet and are what the modified guys use..........I have absolutely no idea which foams to buy and what wheels/trued + glued etc etc.....can anyone offer some advice on size and compound etc for the carpet??

The club have banned any type of mini pin due to them shredding the carpet, so it's either T27's/Carpet Dragons or foams ??? :P 8)

Not sure what type of carpet it is.....it's like the tight industrial stuff you find in a big exhibition centre hall.

Cheers.

on carpet foams will give the most grip, I have not used dragons but T27's are good. not as good as foams though

Generally, at "big" meetings the top guys tend to run exotic compounds such as Plaids, Purples, Double Purples and Magentas.

If these are too pricy for you, then the Fast Tyres are very popular around here. (you can get a set of four for a little more than a pair of the TRC/Jaco exotics)

At big meets I run the exotic tyres, for club meetings i stick to Fast Tyres.

What is the 'shore' all about? 40mm, 35mm?? ????

Help! ??? :P :-[ :- 8)

I have found a shop online in the UK who do the fast preglued wheels/tires but am not sure which to get?

I don't know 100% the answer but I believe it to be a 'standard' method of measureing the hardness/softness of a foam tire.

different brand should state the shore number so you can compare between the 2, even though they may behave a little different (maybe different foam) but they will be the same 'softness'

Yes Chris thats basically it. The higher the number, the harder the tire. If you take a look at this link, it has the listed TRC tyres and their relevant shore ratings for comparison:

Ok lads, desparately in need of help now! :o

Well, last week I ran my xxx-s on the carpet with worn down minipins and the thing was glued to the track and was a joy to drive. The club have since banned any type of minipin so I bought some white compound carpet dragons along with some blue foam inserts.

Drove it today expecting to make the A as I usually do :P but the car was a complete nightmare on the bends :- every time I looked or even thought of steering the back end swung round.

No-one else was running a losi but a mate with a TC3 recommended softening up the rear end and putting on stiff anti-roll bars.

Any advice??? At least I still won the F-final! 8)

Cheers,

Dan

What setup were you running? I spent a lot of time today playing around with my car, and at last i know what (most) of the settings do now!

It is set up as per kit set up, purple springs on front, silver on rear. How tight/loose should the diffs be?? I downloaded David Spashett's carpet setup last night and will play around with that, what you reckon?
