Starter for ten...

The proposal for the GT10 class discussed and voted in at the recent AGM followed the bodyshell standards set by the original World GT class. That's front engined, two door GT cars only.

Discussions about running the class at the 2009 Autosports show came with a request to run shells reflecting those raced in the British GT class. So I've done some research over the weekend, and watched the last BGT round on the box. (that is my excuse and I am sticking to it).

There is a wide variety of cars being raced, and many of the mid-engined and rear-engined cars have available and viable shells for us to race. Ok a couple are slightly older models, but going round the circuit don't think many would notice.

Shame there isn't a widely availble Aston DBR9 or Ferrari 430 :'(

And if we extend the scope to include cars that race in the FIA GT series, a few more come in too. Like the Corvette C6 that is one of the most available shells today.

So that's got us thinking, it we have to run these shells at Autosports then why not extend the list for other races?

The AGM allowed the BRCA 1/10th Electric Circuit committee scope to change the rules in a suitably fair and demoncratic way. See this as an open discussion on what racers think ;)

British and GT shells below.

Shame we cant use the Elise shell, they look quite nice. Did race in the FIA Gt series in '97, but suspose that is to long ago really.

Also a shame that the Britcar cant be taken in as well. Then the TVR sagaris shell can be used.

Many years ago, Autosport gave the defenition for a GT car, the one main rule:
2 passenger doors maximum (1 on each side)

And a rule that should be implemented if you happen to decide to open up the shell list more:
All shells to be Road Vehicle Based
Shells like the Porsche GT1, Mercedes CLK GT1, Toyota TS020 GT-one are TRACK based made road legal

I see no issue with running M/R supercar shells with F/R, as they do run in GT races with eachother.

Did'nt a Golf GTI race in british GT a while ago? That got in due to the door on each side rule. Look a bit weird alongside s7's and storms that where about at the time. Good racing that not like the waterd down version that we have to put up with here in the uk.

Not forgetting the Holden Monaro, or as it is known in the states, a Pontiac GTO, which races in the Rolex GT

OK I know I'm not supposed to attach pictures, so will remove it later.

As to what can get through the rules in some classes... A Honda Integra winning the BTCC... Hardly a tourer in true sense of the word...

And way before that who could forget the ear splittingly noisy RX7 of Win Percy winning a couple of BTCC championships in the early 80's... Again hardly a 'tourer'...

Plus many other examples including the Jags winning ETC...

There was a Yellow Mark 4 Golf GTi 1.8T that was racing in the British GT in 2004 went on to race in BritCar from 2005.

The Cummins Vauxhall Monaro's (rebadged Holden's) also raced up to 2007 but did not run in the 2008 championship. Shame as they were very entertaining to watch.

Interestingly the Ford GT has only ever ran once , at Snetterton.

The Ford GT raced at snetterton as a showcase of the car to the British GT market (i know as i work for RPM and was done in conjunction with ourselfs). However the Ford GT has been racing in FIA GT3 all year and doing well at the hands of Alex Mortimer and Bradley Ellis (who showcased the car at snet), there team mates are also doing well and both sets of drivers have the chance to win the title in Dubai.

To me, I quite like the idea of the '2 doors' and 'Road' based car.

At least you can guarantee the grids looking really nice!

Good man, Skiddins, getting us back on topic!

Mark's proposal seems sensible to me, and I'd like to accept it. It's all very well trying to stretch the list on the basis of one appearance here there or anywhere, but the case is that we will all find a shell that works, and then it will be (say) 'Corvette C6' racing. The rest of the list pretty much becomes an administrative burden with no real use.

It would be nice to start with this list, and see where it goes. At a time when people are feeling the pinch on their disposable income, it wouldn't seem right to have a huge long list so that we all have to go and buy more shells to find the one that works. Short list, word of mouth, get the right information, buy the shell - seems like the smallest outlay.

There is nothing to prevent drivers painting shells in the colours of the cars they like. A Corvette shell sprayed like a Spyker would look awesome at speed on a track, wouldn't it? Some clever painting and a good decal sheet is all we need!! :)

It's the 'this shell works' syndrome that bothers me.
That's why I get a nervous twitch looking at the 'Sophia' bodyshell by PF, at least their Corvette looks like the real thing.
The HPI bodies all look far more realistic than most others.

If they don't follow the jellymould shape that all the current TC bodies use it will be harder to find one that is significantly better than any other. I honestly belive this is what is needed to add variety to the class.
