View Full Version : Driveshaft bouncing???

I have just purchased a pre-built SD from ebay, after stripping it down and rebuilding it (and fixing numerous stupid build errors) I now have a very smooth frivetrain and all appears to be good. ;D

HOWEVER, the front right driveshaft hits the drive cup ring on full left lock which causes a binding and causes the wishbone to jump on power. >:( I have temporarilty resolved this by increasing the droop, i.e. lowering the ride height which has increased the distance between the end of the driveshaft 'bone' and the outdrive ring. :o

When the car is sitting on it's wheels (looking from the front) the gap between the right hand driveshaft -> cup ring is greater than that on the left outdrive.

As I say it is ok at the moment but if I need to raise the ride height for any reason then it will cause a problem. ???

I hope this hasn't confused everyone! Could a shim or such have been left out??

Any help much appreciated.

Hi Dan

I had the exact same problem as this on my car. I think it could be one of 2 things as mine was also on the front right. Either the front right driveshaft is slightly bent or it is a design fault. I think it is a slightly bent front driveshaft though. I only noticed on saturday so will look at the driveshaft more closely when I strip the car before Sundays racing.

I had this problem as well and found it to be that the dive shaft it self is binding fixed wirh cvareful removal of some material from the hole that the pin goes through dont go to mad as u will have very sloopy drive shafts. They can be very tight from new

Hmm, I had NEVER had this problem with this car, I think the shaft is bent, like everyone else says, or there is a wrong diff in there.

I experienced this problem.

It turned out to be a bind in the drive shaft joining section.

Basically the steel dowel needed to be "deburred" this cured my problem. I also experienced this problem on the rear of the car too, but the effect will not show as much as there is not nearlly enough turning angle to show the problem as there is opn the front.
