Hi all,

I am fitting Trackpower 4900 Lipos to my Cyclone WCE, but it seems fitting the pack correctly means they are dangerously close to touching the spur (about 4mm gap). Is battery tape enough to stop the pack moving around completely or are there any other measures I should take to avoid ther spur ripping through my lipos?

4mm is a mile in model car clearance terms! As your going to have to add some weight, use some of it to act as a location bar on the chassis between the battery and the belts/pinion/spur, this will prevent it moving inwards in the unfortunate event of an accident ;)

As Mike says, stick some weights on the chassis underneath the front belt so that the LiPo can't move any further inwards. The clearance between my LiPo and pinion is probably more like 2mm, I've been running a LiPo for over a year with no problems.

With the pack in position pressed up against the strip of weights I also glued two weights to the underside of the battery (through the cell cut-outs in the chassis) to prevent the battery moving outwards. These (steel) weights are ever so slightly proud of the bottom of the car, which has the added benefit of protecting the underside of the chassis.

With the tape in place i think that if anything the LiPo is more secure than when I was running NiMH cells.

my method for an Xray T2-008, but works on everyother car with battery slots. Originally was to stick brass weight on the bottom of the lipo to stop it sliding around. But on a bad impact the lipo moved against the pinion, and the weights dropped off.

Now I installed the battery in the correct position, and held in place with a battery bar, then I used a glue gun with gerneral purpose sticks, and built up the battery slots.
Waited until the glue had hardened, then carefully trimmed around the slots with a sharp craft knife, until I could start to lift the battery, the trimming the glue until it lifted right out.
Then trimmed the hardened glue just to tidy it up. Now I can have the hardest side impact and the battery doesn't move much, not enouh to get flowed with the pinion and spur gear.
