Gearing with a Novak SS

Hi guys,

I am running a Novak SS, and have a quick question on gearing.

It's mounted on a TC3, with a standard 72T Spur - what would be the optimal pinion to run a 5 min race indoors on carpet?

Had major problems as I was running a 30T pinion and the ESC was shutting down due to thermal cut off. I was told to reduce the pinion to a 20T or a 22T pinion.

Is there anyone here running a SS on a TC3?

OK - got it sorted.

Running with a 72T Spur and a 24T pinion gives me a ratio of 7.5, which is close to Novak's recommended 7.3

Using a 30T pinion (as I previously was!) was giving me a ratio of 6.0, which was well under the Novak minimum level of 6.5.

Ran the car this passed Friday and had no problems ;D

Now changed to a Pro 4, and the ratio of a 72T Spur and a 24T pinion with the Pro4 gearing gave me 7.31 final ratio.

I'll see how it runs Friday! :o
