This may hit a nerve, but I really think we should look at splitting brushed and brushless motors, I just wondered what everyone's thoughts were on this ?
At the moment we're running 27T rebuildable up against brushless and more recently 10.5 brushless motors (19T equivalent)
I'd like to have a 27T Rebuildable stock class , for brushed motors and brushless (at present) would have to have a 10.5 limit as more and more drivers are turning up wanting to race these motors.
Really we're looking at running a series and to make it A) as fair as possible and B) more encouraging for beginners to come into the sport and race what they have eg a Tamiya TT-01 with kit ESC and motor, not forcing them to spend the same amount again on a brushless system to become competitive :o
Any thoughts ?

I can see the point of splitting brushed and brushless for begginers re costs but after that no.
Example we know that in our 27t TC racing in the top heats we have mixed them with no effect (performance wise a good 27t brushed motor can be as effective as a 13.5 brushless). Would you be splitting all heats brushed/ brushless?
In the 1/12 heats we run brushed and brushless again I think the heats are well balanced.
Just my thoughts, nice to hear from brushed motor runners at our club if they think they are at a disadvantage.
Rob Smith dont you dare say you are at a disadvantage;) after the last time you run a TC with your Trinity Monster in it, thought you had a modified motor in:eek::eek:

Personally, i am still a fan of brushed motors and if i am honest, i enjoy giving the brushless guys a run for their money:D I think Lee dyson (brushed 27t) would agree with me, from lookinig at his lap times against Matt (running 19t brushless) at the last meeting.
Rob, I swear that monster trinity was possessed  even i thought i was running a modified ;) it was an awesome motor!!

I can only comment on 1/12th but ,the BRCA national class is a mixed class and there is no difference between 10.5bl and 19t .
The nationals are running as one class with mixed motors.I think if you broke this in too 2 classes or banned 10.5 I think it would be depremental to the viability of 1/12th racing.Other clubs run mixed heats with out any problems.
As a for instance 2 weeks ago 10.5bl,6.5bl and 19t all ran together and the
19t won I believe.

Wow theres been some debate on here!
To be honest I dont give a monkeys, I know brushless is faster in TC where weight hinders performance (1500g compared to whatever 12th is) and torque and efficiency are more important to achieve a fast car. Obviously brushed stock has lower torque and is less efficient. However running them together it gives me more of a incentive to set the car up properly and find some time there-its not like we're running on oval tracks so there is some time to be made in the corners to remain competitive. If it wasnt for running against Peter, Rob, Dave etc with brushless in the past I wouldnt be as fast as today as I looked into getting the most out of what I have; skimming, rebrushing, shimming, run in, springs, brush type.
At the end of the day its a club meeting and if I beat a brushless its a bonus. As long as Im satisfied with how the car goes and I tried my best with the stuff I have Im happy, if not Ill try harder, learn more and try out some new stuff on the setup side. :)
10.5 vs 27t. 27t hasnt really got a chance especially if the person can set a car up better than you and drives better aswell
Overall, out of the box brushless is faster. At top level brushless is faster. But with brushed you can close that gap with the tuning and a good setup and an alright pair of thumbs.

Well said Lee,it does not matter what the rules are and what kit you have,if you cant control your car and don't know how to set it up,then people wont get anywhere. Also according to certain websites no more 27 turn motors are being manufactured,so maybe
silver can would be the way to go,unless they stop making them aswell. If cost is the major concern then lipo should be encouraged as it works out a lot cheaper than 4 packs of cells.

In my opinion brushless is the future no dout about it, havent ran a brushed motor since march and i will never go back, its so more efficient than brushed and you are now able to work on the setup of your car rather than worrying whether your motor will be as fast as it was the race before
I came to the 2 previous club meetings running 2 different cars both running brushless, one of which i had never raced before, i could work on the setup with no worries of speed or motors going off
Ok yes iv been running a 10.5 with lipo and its very quick in a straight line!!! but you have to get your chassis setup for the car to work with the speed the bl/lipo gives you
If you can afford to get yourselves a brushless setup go for it, try a 13.5 which is a 27 equivelant and go from there

Got to admit brushless is the future and is for the better in terms of its just ''plug and play'' to some extent and less stuff for the newcomer to learn to become competitive. The novelty is with these motors is that there doesnt seem to be much to fettle with maybe timing and the maintainence takes two mins flush out the bearings or pop them out and put new ones in with a bearing tool and reoil -how difficult is that compared to brushed!
