Hi All,

Just got some questions about the 414 I am building....

1)The one way on the layshaft, how does it affect the handling and should I use it with the the Front one-way or swap to a proper diff????

2)What sort of tension should I run on the main belt?

3)There is quite a lot of side to side slop on the rear diff, is this normal or should I shim it out?

4) Mine came with a black C/Fibre chassis, thought they were meant to be SSG Silver???? Also the Bulkheads are not the Lightened ones but just plain solid blue Alloy!

Cheers

ok..

1) depends on the track and what you like to drive, one ways mean not much breaks and possably instant spin if you try to stop too quick.

2)not sure how to answer that one, just build it and see if you need anything on.

3)i think i would shim it a little but carefull not to make it bind up, i dont think mine moves around much if at all.

4) SSG? no black out of the box the SSG parts are an upgrade as are the lighter bulkheads. If you want to run stick packs you have to run the black deck as the SSG one hasnt got any mounting points for the holders.

Never shim your diff. It will bind the drive train and it's nonsense with a belt drive. As a matter of fact, if I find that my diff has not enough play, I give my outdrive a little trip on the lathe and this works perfectly (car TQ'd at a french national 17T class last year).

About the belt tensionning, leave it as per kit for the moment, maybe once the belt will be broken in you'll find that shimming is necessary.

If you're running on high grip carpet, or a long and flowing track I recommend using the standard layout, with both one ways. The car was desienged to handle properly with one ways and IMHO doesn't handles as well with a front diff and full 4WD, but sometimes when there is not enough grip, being able to switch to a full 4WD can be necessary.

As for the chassis and bulkheads, we never told you it was a SSG part, and if you had a look at the link KeithA provided you on your other post, you'd have noticed that both graphite parts are black and bulkheads are plain.

Only the WCR has lightened bulkheads and Ti all round, which is what we told you...

But don't worry, the car is still fast, try it and you'll love it.
