Ive been thinking of changing over to a 13.5t brushless system, is anyone runnig these at the club.
Are we allowing the use of 13.5t brushless with NiMH cells at the club?!

Hi Russell,
Leyton has been running a 13.5, and I myself have just bolted a shiny lrp vector X11 13.5 stock spec into my car today. I would highly reccommend it as it is really good quality, and of course it doesn't need any work done to it at all between races to keep the performance.
As to the legality of it - it's technically not currently legal according to the rules, but you know what they say about rules being made to be broken ;) Seeing as Leyton has been running brushless for the last half year, and we've been about on the same pace as him, then I see no reason why we shouldn't run it either.
Oh, and I've converted my 1/12th to brushless too, having strapped in an orion 5.5 in there for Chesterfield - now that will be fast!

It's been allowed. Pretty sure it's because the club doesn't want to (and can't really afford to) lose any racers on account of the fact they want to run brushless motors or lipo cells.
From watching Leyton's car I'd say they're much more punchy out of the corners. 13.5 BL motors are definately quicker than 27t brushed, but if that's what people want to run fair enough.

Yeah - I know that it's a bit faster, but look at it this way - if any of us want to run at larger meetings such as nationals where brushless is the norm and we weren't allowed brushless at Cambridge then we would either have to be at a disadvantage (like Tom said that he was at Chesterfield) or have to shell out on all new equipment.

What what? Shell out on new equipment to run brushed? Feel free to make that point clear, as you've already got equipment for brushed motors...regardless of that, the brushless ESC you've bought can happily run brushed equipment too, so I can't see that it's holding you back. Either way, how many of us are good enough to NEED brushless at a big meeting. Sure, I could go faster with a brushless motor, but I also know that a decent driver would be able to take my equipment and go several laps quicker. If I can avoid spending £150 for a couple of laps gain when I race at a bigger meeting maybe 3 times a year, I will.

Now I've confused myself lol. I think I meant that if I hadn't bought the brushless esc or motor because they are not specifically legal at the club then on the rare occassion that I go to a bigger meeting I would have been a bit slower than most others with my brushed equipment or else I would have had to invest in brushless gear only for that (which I have kind of done anyway - just for everywhere rather than only one or two meetings).
I think that that's what I meant - anyway just forget that point lol

The answer to Russell's question is that "we" will decide rule changes at the AGM, "we" being the club membership. The committee did take a view and allowed LiPos earlier in the year on the basis that people were looking to buy cells & chargers and the LiPo route was probably cheaper and offered no performance advantage over NiMhs.
BL (brushless) is a different matter, as it is pretty apparent that a 13.5 BL motor is faster than a good 27 BR (brushed). I'm also sure that BR motors and spares will disappear from shops at some point in the future (e.g. Nick Adams is making no more BR motors and won't get more stock of brushes). However, BL motors do cost more initially and there is a glut of BR kit available second hand. So, on cost grounds, personally I think it is too soon for us to allow BL and that we should continue to run 27 BR through next year.
It appears that ROAR in the US would like to adopt 17.5 BL as their "stock" wind, on the basis that BL performance will increase and would like to peg back performance a bit.

where do you connect the battery?

So have you got anymore stuff - or even the car yet Tom? I definitely think that rallyx will require a different driving style to your smooth on-road one. lol

Yep, so far i have:
- OS VZB V-Spec
- OS Speed T-2060SC pipe set
- KO 301F receiver
- KO PDS-2344
- KO PDS-2343
- 2 Sets of Proline Crimefighters on Velocity wheels
- 2 Sets of Proline Bow Ties on Velocity Wheels
- TKO Ceramic bearings (for the V-Spec)
In the next week or so I should be getting all the other little bits like a starter box and batteries, glow heater, fuel etc... The car will be at the end of the month (i.e pay day). Still not sure what yet though but on my list:
- Hot Bodies D8
- Kyosho MP9
- O'Donnell Z01B
- Xray 808
I'll keep you updated.
John - The battery goes in the receiver :p

back to the subject of electric motors...
I am a fan of the Trinity P2K2 around our tracks because of it's torque compared to the revvy Monsters etc. However, I havn't seen it in stock anywhere in the UK for ages, it also disappeared off the Trinty web site. But now it's back on the Trinity website, so I plan to buy some when I am in the US in a couple of weeks. If anyone wants one, let me know
PS, I can make one P2K2 last 2 seasons, no problem! And then I give it to Dugald, who runs it for months longer

Hmmmm...actually I would say either the monster or the CO27s are quicker, as long as theyre geared right. Both of these are still available from UK shops as far as i can see. However, back when i was running a TC4 I only ever ran the p2k2. Anything else just didnt feel quite right and i was the only motor that seemed to gear properly.

I can gear the p2k2 to get good speed and still come off the track only warm (can keep your finger on the can) which means it lasts for ages - only slightest skim and brushes never discolour. Anyway, I'll be collecting in time for the next race
