Thanks

Depends on if you wish to run a 21 or 28 to be honest 21 is more econmoical than a 28 but saying that i run a falcon 28 and i can get 9 mins out of a tank of fuel so if you compare this against a 21 size it is not that bad really;

My choices would be at the moment i think

FALCON
GRP

Unless other people have any other ideas but i would go along with any of these 2

Those engines mentioned above are great if you have loads of money, but if you're on a budget - like i was when i started - then I would try the GO .21.
I have the 3port eco and it really isn't as bad as the price seems to suggest. I can easily keep up with others at the track although it does lack a little bottom end.
Just my opinion.

Paul you'll get everyones own recommendation according to what they run.

I run OS Speed Vspec - its excellent. You can get the slightly cheaper Vspec.

Oh and everyone will have a bad taste with every engine too, bearings, rods etc.

goto your LHS and see what they recommend as it will be useful to get their help tuning etc.

a good 21 in a good truck will be just as good as a 28 except for on grass where more torque is required but then just drop it down a tooth on clutch bell. also as savage says ill get a good 11 or 12 mins per tank with my sirio sti as to 9 mins to a 28

GRP.28 all the way...fuel econemy is great. i get 8:30 mins with some spare to go, but my driving is very agressive and im always on the throttle ;-)

next would be the ninja.28 if u can still get it

then the os.28, the os doesnt seem to have as good fuel econemy as the grp and ninja and it isnt as smooth through the power band.

i ahve tryed .21's in the truggy and they just dont have the guts to do anything unless you know exactly how to tune the engine to the max and know exactly what you are doing.

spend a decent ammount on the engine and be nice to it and it will server u well for a long time.

usually if u buy cheap in this hobby u will get cheap crappy results. tryed and tested

Hope that helps

Have FUN!

if you want to race at club level (be competitive as well) go for the GRP .28 or the O.S .28, you can be competitive more or less straight away without having to do lots of tuning. I had a 28 and went back to a 21, found the 21 soooooooooooo boring

its either a mini engine in a jag or a jag engine in a mini. I know which one I like driving.

Thanks for the replies guys, I was aware that I was likely to get loads of different answers but I just wanted to see peoples choices.
It seems a 28 most favourable, i'm assumingh there is no limit for racing like there is in Rallycross?
Keep your experiences coming please!

Cheers
Paul

look at the engines that are run in the truggy a finals and you will find id guess at 70% will be a good quality 21. i do agree with martin buy good once look after it and it will serve you well buy cheap and you will soon be buying a new good engine. one thing on all engines if you are a bit larey is lookafter the conrods cus at 40+ thousand rpms thay take a beating. i do 3 gallon per rod and change it, a rod is cheaper than an engine.

what price range is classed as a cheapo engine and what price is classed as a expensive engine.............???????????

Myself I would pay around £200, at this price we seem to get good power and long life span

id agree 200 quid is a good price to pay.

The GRP Combo set is around £185 and that includes the pipe, so £200 should be ample for a good engine.

paul i would go for either an os vspec or the cheap go 3port both cracking engines.

I have one of the Go 21 3 port entry level engines in my buggy and think its great but was wondering if it had the guts for the truggy?

Most guys who race at top level are using .21 enines.

more than enough power. but if you want that bit more Sirio are bringing out a new .24 engine specifically for Truggies. We saw Jerome agion win the Kyosho masters with it and it was real quick.

MIke Cradock uses .21 engine i have just tried the .28.

Not really much to choose between them , but if you are running in muddy conditions then the toque of the .28 will be beneficial.

lets hope the top drivers never have a play with a .28

I think at top level it does not matteras much, but at national clubmans level it makes all the difference.
Take Martins performance in the 8-08 yesturday, it can out jump any .21 they just have so much punch to get you over the jumps, it untrue, in dry low grip conditions
pitty he poped the driveshaft in the last couple of minutes

Dam mugen should get yourself a X-Ray Mart :D:p

P.S dont forget the fun factor the .28 gives ya

There must be something in the bigger cc engine, due to companies starting to design and produce them.

If the same level of development goes into 28 or bigger engines that goes into 12 and 21 engines then the bigger bore engines will take off big time. Because RX and on road limit to 12 and 21 the development is mostly in this area. Truggy ROAR limit is 28 (UK has no upper limit) hence why 28 has been the focus. I run 21 in dry smoth tracks and bring the 28 out when its wet mud or thick grass. Coming up to winter I might recommend getting a 28 but depends where you race. head up to Frankley this sunday or next sunday and you'll see all sorts of engines and be able to see for yourself. I strongly recommend the OS though, its easy to tune it and in my experience very reliable.

Regards,
Neil.

Thanks guys, lots of good recommendations. Looks like its going to be a 21. and i'll go for a 28 as a spare for heavy duty conditions.
