Hi there i am relatively new to RC Racing but have fell in love with the building of and racing in a short period of time :-X
I own a Tamiya TT-01 chassis with a WRC 2003 bodyshell I could spend hours searching for peoples opinions and views on the chassis but thought I would throw you some food to chomp on.
I would like to hear any views or difficulties people have had with the TT-01 and any race tips people have for the setup.
I run race bearings all round with a 19t superstock :P it does the job and was Cheap! I had big difficulty getting hold of a Aluminium prop shaft as the stock one flexed BIG STYLE with the new motor in so I attacked my mountain bike mudguard and made my self a prop shaft as the shaft was a similar bore, after a few attempts and several drill bits later I have made a alloy shaft (a bit off centre but solid as a rock)
Anyway I love the handling and solid nature of the TT-01 and wondered what other people thought.

hi steve , i am also new to rc and like you i have a TT-01 WRC 03 ... i found fitting the ball race and the ball diff gave better acceleration and longer cell life ... i am going to get a new motoer on friday and would like to when you made your prop did you leave the end's square or did you shape them like the original.... and did you change the gearing ..

Hi,
I have a wrc 03 TT01 too ;D I also found the plastic driveshaft 'slapped' against the chassis at high speeds especially since i got my new motor, and so i replaced it with the aluminium one. Its fine now. I have bearings and super low friction dampers which ahve helped my car alot. i run mine at my local race club indoors and out, and it goes rpetty well :D the only problem i ahd indoors was on the carpet, it tended to roll on some tight corners, will test it out tomorrow when i'll be using my new dampers, see if there's any difference.

Anyone have problems with their TT01 'rolling' on carpet? I race mine at a local indoor carpet track and on corners, the car has a tendancy to flip and roll over ??? I cannot get the ride height lower than about 10mm which could be the problem. Someone said its because it has toomuch grip on the corbners and so the wheels dig into the carpet and flip the car. Its fine when running on tarmac, no problem at all with the corners.
Any ideas anyone?

What dampers have you fitted and what kind of price did you pay?
chris uk

Im using good dampers - tamiyas super low friction with 60wt oil in front, 40wt in rear and on road tuned spring set - extra stiff (white) at front and stiff (blue) at rear. Paid £40 for the dampers, retail at £60.
Am i running too hard springs?
Thanks,
Chris

have you got the turn buckle steering parts on? you NEED them to let you lower the car.
Also try setting all your shocks the same, the cars mounting points make the front and rear different anyway.

no i haven't got the turn buckle set, Myabe is should get it. How does it lower my car? I thought it was so you can adjust toe in etc.
Chris
hey, ive just got a tt01 nissan as my first car.
Hop-ups so far:
ALU motor mount
ALU prop shaft
ALU heat sink
Bumper stopper
Blue bumper
Havok 14/2
Mtroniks RV15 ESC
Futaba FP-R122JE receiver
Bearings
I bought the spur gear upgrade 58T 55T, put the 55T in with a 25T pinion and it was loads worse. Any suggestions on that and how to make this as fast as possible? Made a horrible noise but all was lined up correctly? Really want to make this car as fast as I can. Should I stick with the 19T with 61T spur what comes with it? And whats better a stock or modified motor. Lastley would a lower turn motor be quicker, although i'd have to get a different ESC.
Got most parts next day delivery from the hobby company, had massive problems getting the prop shaft but they sorted it straight away!
Many thanks Guys
Sorry motor is a 15/2 havok

Hi there,
not replyied to the earlier queriy about the shaft mod as been away. I scrubbed the corners of my shaft off when i made it to stop it cutting the holders.
However for those of you who are having trouble getting the Alu prop in the UK i got mine from this site. It is really useful.
<but against rule 7, please re read it!>

2.ball diff. kit
3.turnbuckel's
4.wheel adapters
5.alu motor mount
6.17x2 motor
7.15T esc
8.some nice blue wheel nuts ;D
9. heat sink
next on list new springs and dampers, that nice blue bumper and stopper ;D, and maybe the carbn upper frame ( if i can figure out what the benifits of paying 17 squid for it)....

I need to lower my ride height on my TT01 to make it more suited to racing as the car flips sometimes on tight corners, indoors on carpet (fine out on the tarmac). Will these 'short springs' from tamiya lower my ride height?
cheers, Chris

Hello
I am having the same problem. ???
I have the Mini CVA shocks.
I have been told it will be better with soft springs on front.
And it seems better when I only put 1 piston hole at front and 3 at back, although i think i should probably make all four have 1 hole and then change the oil.
I have tamiyas "soft" oil, (dont you just love that..."soft"!!) does anyone know what soft means...is the a specification, and what is oil measured in anyway?!
I am thinking of making my own prop shaft on my school lathe, do you think it can be done with the round bits at the end?
Thanks lots

Hey, it hink it has made my car less flip worthy' after putting medium springs all round, although I have been told stiffer springs on front thatn rear improves handling so i am still experimenting with different spring combos. I have 2 piston holes all round with 60wt oil at front (thicker) and 40wt at rear (thinner). oil is measured in its viscosity and so the higher the number, ie. 20,30,40,50,60... then the thicker it gets, and the longer it takes to rebound after a compression.
You should be able to make your own prop shaft. I remember reading somwehere that someone made one out part of a bike? give it a try if not then you could always buy the alu one.

I am testing harder on the front this week then...
I have evened off the piston holes to 1 all round because i race on flat surfaces.
And i am trying some different oil...35 it says on it...i dont know how this compares to tamiyas "SOFT" but i will give it a go anyway.
Thanks, i will keep you informed as to my humble testing results.

just a thought .... i was toying with the idea of making a prop then i realised that the rate of speed that the motor turns ,if the prop isn't balanced it will wip around and eventually cause damaged to bearing , motor and gearing .. if you look closely you will see grooves on your prop ,i bet thats how you balance them..... just a thought

hey baz. The alu prop shaft doesn't have any grooves on it so it should be ok. Although its probably betetr to buy the proper thing rather than risk extensive damage to your car :-

If you have the proper tools (a lathe) its worth giving it a go...at worst your gonna ruin a couple of bearings, maybe the spur? doubt it tho...
Have you seen the Tai Kai TT-01??? now that is a funky car!!

okies, didnt know what a lathe was lol.

K, i've ordered the set of short springs for my TT01 :D, should be here shortly. Hope they make a differenc to my handling, if it means i can get the ride height down to around 5mm, then it should make a difference. Has anyone else fixed their 'rolling' problems?
Chris

Nope still trying...
you can get some carbon parts as proper tamiya upgrades now...the carbon upper frame...there are also other companies that are making parts now. Keep your eyes peeled.
For the rollie problem, I want to lower ride height but i dont know how to do it withoug sacrificing too much damper travel.
chris uk
28-02-2004, 08:37 AM
Will the short springs sacrifice damper travel? I know that if you put spacers inside the shocks it does.

29-02-2004, 08:14 AM
yes I think they will...I have tried it. :(
did you notice on the Kai TT-01 the holes for the suspension. There are multiple holes and so you can mount it on a different hole for lower ride height while keeping all your suspension travel.
chris uk
29-02-2004, 09:36 AM
yeah, we need tamiya to bring out a pair of them for the front and rear suspension.

I have seen other tt-01 people not having problems....and they have similar setups!! whats going on
it could be driving line...but im sure thats not all it is.
