Hi all, i race a 008 with brushed 27 stock motor and trakpower 4900 lipo.

The car has the standard gearing (no update parts)

I've been running a 27 pinion with the standard 84 spur gear, all was ok till last week when my motor went up in smoke, replaced the motor and all was ok.

Tonight i ran the same and again my motor is stinking hot, i went down to a 26 pinion to try to help the motor out but it is still running very hot.

With the 26 pinon the FDR is 7.16

Am i overgeared?

Impossible to say, gearing on a stock brushed motor is basically dependant firstly on the type of motor i.e. monster, roar etc and secondly, the size and layout of the track you are racing on. However, I think that from how you have described the motor getting very hot, it's a safe bet that you are overgearing it.

Either, ask someone at your club who has experience with stock motors or try going the other and under gearing it and then gradually bring it up untill it feels warm after 5mins.

How would you describe the track Martin?

Im sure I was in your heat last night at Don Valley and Im sure you were the orange car if that is you in the first couple of heats you didnt look to be way overgeared (I was the yellow and blue car). Last night I was running a 8.4 with the monster but motors vary a lot.

If the motor was hot might be worth taking it to a 8 as a nice starting point for Don Valley with brushed stock and work up or down. If the problem is still there it could be down to a layshaft bearing or something along those lines....

If you want any help with motors or setup Ill try my best to point ya in the right direction.

Hope this helps, see ya next time

Yes, that was me last night with the orange car.

The second heat my car was great, I beleive i was only a second or so behind you, although the motor was red hot. In the third heat my car started of fine but lost power towards the end, you blitzed me down the back straight.

I'm running a Vega Flux 27 and have not really had problems until last week at Doncaster and this week at Don valley. have always run gearing around 7 and never really had much trouble, will have a look at my layshaft and bearings and reduce gearing to around 8 to see if this cures it.

just thought i'd let you know how i got on last friday, i geared my car to 7.93 and it ran like a dream, motor was no where near as hot as it has been. I qualified 3rd in the A and finished second. So, all in all, a successful evening. Cheers. :D
